So many pubs in East London boarded up, turned into restaurants, apartments, shity hotels, shops etc. I see this all over - in Stepney, Canning Town, Silvertown, Maryland, Leyton, Leytonstone and Walthamstow.
Partly, it's a community thing. Some pubs were so hermetic and frankly shit, that they imploded, because the patrons were so broke they preferred a tin of White Lightning outside. Also, where the majority of people are Muslims, the hypocrisy takes over. They do drink and smoke weed, but it's not socially acceptable to do it in public.
The only thing to do is to support your local and perhaps petition to your MPs to preserve the local history.

Tramp beers kill the enterprise. And we're to fussy about food and vegetarian options. Pubs are there to meet up with mates and get slushed, not fucking eat tofu pies.

People are taking over shitty old pubs in East London and making money. It can be done.

It's not as simple as taking over a pub and making money. You have to buy the thing first if you don't want ties with large pub co's.

Not saying they're not a good idea, just that it can't be an easy task getting so many people committing with money to keep their local pub alive.

Not much of a pub person, but really enjoyed the alma the few times I went there with Cake and Nhatt.
