Judging by the existence of this thread he has achieved his objectives, lots of hits on his page to up his advertising income and plenty of people talking about him. It is after all getting close to the year end and he probably faces a performance review like everyone else, a good stat on how many unique visitors land directly on his page is good for the bonus negotiations.

Exactly. Just ignore these people, they are only being provocative on purpose, and those aren't his real views. Columns like that are a dime a dozen and like all attention-seekers, he will glory in people actually noticing him. Cycling has been a cheap target for that sort of column since the year dot.
