Also - definitely get a second, third and fourth opinion on the knee thing.
While harsh fixed riding might be stressful on the knees, most of the 'opinions' i heard about freewheel riding is that it's therapeuthic (or whatever the spelling is) really, for as long as you don't do overdo it.
Also, where in PL are you? I know a good doctor, I think he's currently in Warsaw.
