Apologies, I didn't intend to derail the thread. Hope she recovers.

Not that it makes any difference to how we feel but I believe the young woman is a member of waiting/catering staff at a well known cycling cafe in Old Street

Big item on cycle lane "safety" including a report on this incident on ITV London news just now

I am always saddened by the injury or death of a fellow London cyclist but when it happens to someone I probably know, it is that much worse.
PLease recover fully and quickly

Just found out today this girl is someone I know quite dearly, she is currently resting at Paddington and hopefully she will make a fully recovery soon. Just want to say 'ride safe' to everyone.

Just seen this. Horrible sounding incident and very sad to hear, but I'm given hope by HoKe's post above. Thoughts are with family and friends. I dearly hope a full recovery is made.

Please pass on our thoughts Ho.
I buy coffee from the chap on Delancey St so quite often make that left turn. I've never felt threatened there but I have always felt uneasy for some reason.
Hope she heals up fully and quickly

Yep another example of a cycle lane that cyclists should never use. Especially when..
“It was a woman on the bike. She was going along the High Street and the truck just turned into her as they went into Delancey Street. We saw her go under it and then scream. People quickly rushed to help and the first ambulance was here within three minutes.”
fucking hell man, this is so fucked. Hope she recovers fully.
I avoid all cycle lanes in London for this very reason.
It's a fucking joke. You assume you are safe and then this. What to do?
Look over your shoulder every 10 seconds or more when you hear one of these behind you.this

Would like to arrange curry, books, films, snacks etc...

A general update, she is out of intense care and feeling a lot better, but will require a lot of physiotherapy to get her back on her back. =)

Thanks Hoke
That is good to hear -

I saw this thread resurface, and worried that things had taken a turn for the worse... Really glad that she's doing better, best wishes for a full recovery. Best wishes to you too, HoKe - it can't be easy for those of you who are close to her.

There's now a sign up (not sure how long it's been there for) at the bottom of Camden High Street warning vehicles not to overtake cyclists through the roadworks, given they go most of the way up the street. Highly doubtful that anyone will pay attention to it, but...

Seen this nearly happen so many times on my commute. People treat those 4 lanes as a drag strip.
Thoughts go out to the rider.
-
• #46
I hope very much that this rider is healing fast. Get well soon.
-

Wow just seen this one too.
The junction is a bit of a dodgy one in that it's designed with pedestrians in mind, and so the entrance to Delancey St. has been made quite narrow, causing lorries to turn slightly right before turning left. Sad to hear this, hope the rider makes a full recovery ASAP.

We now have a thread for this:

Please keep speculative debate about the cause of incidents out of Rider Down.
You are not prohibited from discussing the merit of better town planning, but this is not the place for it.
