I must say I am quite an accomplished cook. When I cook, I bloody cook and not leave the kitchen. Whether a meal is brilliant or just good is more than just ingredients, it's down to the details, whether you put in the effort to make it good, making sure the fire is just right, there is enough liquid to let it simmer and not dry out, not letting the dough rise for too long is why a meal made by someone with years of experience cooking is much better than your attempt with the same recipe without any experience.
Yeah, I have burnt stuff while cooking but that's because of lack of experience and not because I am a bad cook. I am bloody Asian and I pin rolled a panzerotti base (and pizza base, yet to learn the hand toss skill though) much better than my Italian guests who told me I can't do it right. Years of working on something > I've seen it done before and have helped my mom out once or twice.
You never burnt something while cooking? Does that make you a bad cook?
