That's exactly what mine is used for. Guessing you mean cantis, I'm using some dirt cheap Tektro ones with Aztec pads and I'm very impressed with the power, can lock up both wheels with one finger

I'm about to buy an old Ridley Crosswind for €160, needs a new cassette, brakepads and chain but is mostly fine. Seriously contemplating selling the Campagnolo 10-speed groupe and getting a free SSCX with the money made, is a SSCX doable for someone starting with CX, or should I ride around with gears first? (How much would I get for a Campagnolo Centaur 10-speed group minus brakes?)

First time I rode 'cross it was on a SS bike. And it was fine. Pick an appropriate gear and off you go.

I did end up with crazy amounts of calf cramp to be fair. But I still enjoyed it.

Did it have great impact on the performance of the bike? Looks beautiful!

Well rear brake stopped working after first round and there is only about two mm between chainstays and tyre so it didn't take long that it was full of mud. Had some bad luck, two flats so didn't finish but it was nice track and had fun.

Maybe the rear mudguard contribute to the clogging up on the rear brake, maybe not.

possibly, forgot that there and it didn't even help keep my back clean.
