in urban assault mode for now but the winter and knobbies are coming..

  • how old are those big apple tyres? Only asking because mine (from last year I think) have totally diff decals, I prefer these.

  • bought them used a year ago so can't really tell..

  • if you like the big apple tyres, I can recommend super moto. similar thread, but a touch wider, much lighter and more supple.

  • Fixed gear monster cross and some finnish autumn trails. I had tons of fun feeling stupid at the same time.

  • Looks brilliant, let me know if you ever feel too stupid to continue and wanna get rid of it!

  • That's what i need.

Ever ridden with any one on normal mtb's? and how is it with spd's?

I looked into them but this being my primary commuting bike cant afford not to have that kevlar belt on london roads. Plus they are pricey ;)

I've been riding trails mostly by myself. Without brakes you'll have to take it slower when hitting descends for example. On rocky trails pedal strikes tend to happen time to time - it's harder to avoid them. But I like riding fixed and even brakeless on trails. Of course you are slower than somebody with brakes and freewheel but I like the feeling. Somehow I keep steadier pace and keep on pushing longer with fixed gear. Some descends can be scary but it's fun to find a way to ride them down.

Spd's work out just fine: better control than with flat pedals and straps.

  • Prollys pugsley is rad.

  • pedantic old man thread

    Cool, I'm there!

  • BTW

    Fatbike thread >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • Gimme a fat bike thread and I would've posted it there!

I considered that; it is home to a lot of fatness by default, but fatties probably deserve their own space away from the studded tyre brigade. A fat bike is not just for Christmas!

  • I just chuck all things fat into here

  • Except for hippy.

  • Just back from a 45ish mile, with about 15-20 miles proper off road in mud. The maxxis beavers are excellent in mud....good traction, clear clay brilliantly, roll well. On the hard packed stuff on canal paths, and Tarmac however, they drag massively! Oh how I missed my conti x-kings today! I even checked on a slight downhill bit.....I was slowing down, freewheeling. That's not fair.
    My legs are bolloxed........

  • Loving this surly.

  • Want !
    So rad !

  • Had this one build maybe two years ago. Some no name Chinese frame set. Was really nice to ride. About 10.4kg ... had quite lazy acceleration with 38T up front

And Before I went on gears,it was single speed. At the beginning I had some kind of tensioner, later I found magic gear.
