foxlow yesterday was very good, definitely a lot of the hawksmoor vibe about it.
went with the gf, 6pt and tricitybendix and with the 50% food discount it came to about £134 including service charge, total would have been about £200 without it so roughly £50pp on a normal day.
went for the full 3 courses. I wont bore you with everyones meal choices but i had
pre-meal nibbles: sourdough, olive oil and some crumb thing which is like crushed bombay mix but more complex which you dip your bread into after the oil. very interesting.
starters: iberico baby back ribs, I was sulking because 6pt got more than me but they were very very good. decent amount of meat on them for a starter and brilliantly smoked.
mains & sides: went for a 250g deckle steak, sprouted broccoli with anchovy butter and chillis and skin on fries with bacon salt. we also got an unexpected portion of beef dripping potatoes which they didnt put on the bill when we asked why we'd got them (result).
steak was fucking amazing, not the glutton fest you get from one of the big cuts typical of the hawksmoor (they had portherhouses as well so I could have got a 950g for ~£45 but am trying to lose weight at the moment so thought better of it) the deckle though was so tender it was literal melt in your mouth type steak. so good. the sides were pretty good , the chips with bacon salt were interesting I thought they had a kind of sweetness to them and wouldn't have managed more than the portion size i got i dont think but went well with the meal, the greens were as you'd expect but very tasty, the beef dripping potatoes were ridiculously crispy and tasted like they'd been cooked in bovril but not in a bad way. they're kind of the culinary equivalent of roast beef monster munch, between me and 6pt they didn't get left for long.
dessert: bourbon caramel soft serve sundae (bourbon sauce comes on the side) this is the reason I am going for a long run today, but so worth it.
dessert 2: like the hawksmoor has their salted caramel rolos foxlow have salted caramel popcorn which comes tied up in a bag. saved my bag for today so it's waiting for after my run but tried some from 6pt and tbendix's and it too was also very good
service was good, aside from one dish being off the menu and the free extra side no problems whatsoever, they coat checked the tandem mandems panniers for them without a blink of an eye.
even without the discount I think it would have been well worth the money so reckon we'll be going back early next year once the menu's changed around a bit again.
on a side note toilets are individual closet room types marked either ladies or gents with one in the middle marked ladies and gents which i assume is aimed at the hermaphrodites of the world very forward thinking of them I say.
