I saw a 911 "50" at Yas Island yesterday and it's beautiful.
I stayed at the Viceroy for a few days last week. Came away thinking how nice Abu Dhabi was. Would move there, for a few years, if the chance came up.

it's an mt75 'box out of a scorpio. don't kow much about them, tbh.
A bit heavy, reasonably strong, but not the best gear change in the world. Standard fitment in Westfields, or used to be anyway on their Zetec powered cars.

Get one of these Richie:

But do not, under any circumstances, get one of these:
Cos they're shit. Friend had one in a Caterham, it lasted less than 200km. The Quaife 6 speed sequential he replaced it with is still going strong 6000km later.
But if you really want a sequential box you should get a Sadev rather than a Drenth, anyway.

The one I pictured is going into a 240 with a boosted I5, quite an interesting project.

When they put the engine in the back.
/troll.
Actually I'm sure as cars the water-cooled 911s are a lot better than the air cooled ones in many ways. They rust less, the engine is further forward so it handles better, the interior is sensibly laid out, the early ones (with the boxster front) look really quite nicely proportioned.
But the air cooled ones sound better. Way better. The modern turbos might as well be transit vans with that sound. -

b&d, it seems you may be the ideal person to ask: I'm heading out to Dubai for two weeks as of tomorrow, is it worth hiring a car for the duration of stay?
Couple of questions:
Are you a boozer?
How long are you here for?
Where do you want to go? -

hmm ok so I was bitching about paying 2k for BMW maintenance, guy emails me this morning knocking $1k off the mount I paid. So, much happier now.

Last time I drove in SF I was in a near-2 metre wide bright yellow Camaro SS. I've never driven anything so wide in my life (except a Hummer, but that was off-road).
Envious. I love pony cars. Especially a bright yellow Camaro.
love the baby bmw though, great fun to drive.
Who would have thought a tiny BMW with such a big engine would be fun? ;)
I'm slightly disappointed you didn't get a Challenger though!

The Challenger is wider still, over 2 meters I believe- personally I would have gone for a Challenger, in White, Vanishing Point style, but was over-ruled by my colleagues because the Camaro was Yellow. It was the 400bhp SS model so didn't half shift, but was really too wide to enjoy driving anywhere except the freeway.
I think for driving satisfaction the Mustang would have been the way to go, but for out-and-out coolness, the Challenger wins by a country mile.
tl;dr: I rented the shittest car out of a selection of nice cars.

Aahsome. Those and Cobras are the only acceptable replicas, imo.
In fact, I'd quite like a Speedster rep with a Subaru engine in it... -

I know, heresy right? I know of a madman that not only intends to roof-chop a 912, but to also install a WRX motor in it.
If it's a real Porsche, put a Porsche engine in it. Otherwise, anything goes. -
• #18170
Fair point.
912's are utter dogs of cars.

A car page on a bike site, I've dropped lucky there!

Where do you want to go?Landed this morning and having been driven around by my mate today I've decided that it's probably best to leave the driving and rely on him and cabs to get around. The roads are quite confusing and there appears to be a blatant disregard for lane discipline here!
Here for two weeks and staying on the Palm. Got some meetings to arrange with locations tbc. Boozing a distinct possibility. Might give the metro a go.
