Building 'The speeder'

Posted on
  • Hi all,

I am from holland i got the idea of building a bike for my brother's birthday. I have a budget so am going to get a few parts new (crankset, saddle, chain, tires) and the rest from ebay and my garage where i have a few parts laying around (like most of us here i guess).

I am going to build it up as a singlespeed with a rear hub brake. So it will look clean as a fixie but with the safety of a brake. I have purchased a giant speeder frame, 54cm. I know it is a low end bike, but the paint on it is very good, it has some minor paint chips but that's it. I know my brother loves the classic nineties paint and it brings back nice memories for the both of us. Goal is to make it a mix of classic frame and newish parts, obviously with gumwall tyres.

    I already have some components:
Rear wheel: Black H+Son sl42 (i guess) with shimano brake hub
Front wheel: Black rim (unknown brand) with campagnolo hub
    Stem: ITM 'Big one' quill
    Steer: ITM super italia pro
    Bar Tape: BBB plain black

This is how the frame looks now:

And this is how i am planning to have it when it is ready, did the best job i could with my non-existing photoshop skills:

Except for the Fi'zik saddle, that is too expensive, but sooooooo nice. Still thinking about the right saddle for this build.

  • Repainted the wheels today. This project is sloooow but gonna be finished in januari.

  • got some new parts for this build:
