Have to say I don't like recent Highland Park bottlings; they've really changed the character of the whisky. I don't think the new peatiness suits it at all.
That said, what I don't like about it might not be what you dislike. For me, the distinctive hint of white spirit (best way I can describe it) was always part of the appeal (can always pick out Highland Park in a blind tasting). Maybe you'd like it with the peat and without the petrol fumes (for me, it's the other way round). Either way, I think that combination makes for the sourness.
Not that I don't like peaty whiskies; it just really doesn't work for HP.
