Downsides - Cheaper rubber can crack and split. Also can whiff a little depending on how tight you wear it and how often you take it off.
Might also be applicable to other types of 'wearable' rubber, but I wouldn't know...

I'd hope you'd throw the other 'wearable' rubber away once you've used it...

I've said too much already.

Tempted by this start up project:
Downsides: I already have a 7750 movement, however I am a sucker for a moonphase.

I'd combine it with this strap from an earlier project he did for Watch U seek members:

There is just something about the bronze numbers and markers that doesn't do it for me.... maybe it's the hands clashing with the arrow pointers(?). I love the shape of the moon phase. It's not something I often like.
It makes me think of that old saying for women of taking off one accessory before leaving. Accept that it needs to lose two.

Looking like I'm going to have both of these...oops!
I did just get engaged though, so it's only fair as she got a ring!

I quite like the diver, been noticing some of their models recently.

They're lovely watches, sensibly priced too

A grand is sensible??

Your friend and mine Murtle came up trumpets with a strap to fit the PAM for less dressy days and a matching wallet in the posho leather he's been working with. Apologies for the lousy iPhone picture, and the even worse photographer holding it;
The leather is absolutely stunning, almost putty like in the way that it bends and really tactile.
In other news I just got the email to say that the serial number of my TNT Black Luna will be L65 and would I kindly pay the deposit? This bloody watch bug is a bastard.

For a lump of kit like that, which should last a lifetime and could accompany you to a couple of hundred metres under water (should you really fancy it) - yes, IMO.
No different to paying for quality bike with a rolhoff or whatever analogy you want to use.
I've often thought Murtz's straps a bit agricultural in the aesthetic (taking nothing away from the impressive craftsmanship) but the Panerai is one instance where it suits. I would prefer a less contrasty stitching colour though.

To me, yes...I don't spend money on lots of things that other people think are worth spending on

I don't see me having the strap that the Artelier comes with on there for long before contacting Murtz for an alternative!

Just bought this as a daily wearer, hopefully it won't be too inaccurate. £16 from ebay.

It depends doesn't it.
Bikes are quite a good analogy. A correctly fitted specialised allez with the right tyres probably does everything a more expensive bike does. A Pomp would have done everything your BMW does without needing any alteration for a fraction of the price.
From what I can see for new watches, a grand seems to be the tipping point into a bit of a nomansland. As in I'm not sure what you get for £3k that is any different from a £1k watch.

A lot of it is very personal I think, to people who use their phone / computer / the sun to tell what time it is, there's little "value" in a nice / expensive / different watch... The same way that I wouldn't spend £100 on a night out getting pissed but would quite happily spend £100 on a meal for two, or a pair of jeans or three times as much on a pair of shoes...it's about what you like

I picked up one of these recently:
For 30 quid you cant complain and I like the look of it.
Kind of jelly of your Helson. But it is quite big... in a nice way.
I've got starp news too. Just put a rubber thing from Dagaz watches onto my Steinmariner,
squeezing a 22mm into a 20mm gap.
It's brilliant. Lightweight, water proof, and there's no movement of the watch head on my wrist due to the friction it inherently creates.
What's the downside? Do they perish quickly? Do they give you a rash?
Are they lint magnets? Why haven't I done this before?
