The Telegraph have reported she was a novice cyclist. Not what her parents said in the letter.

Careless reporting? Mentally abbreviating "her first bike ride with her new boyfriend" to "her first bike ride"?

I can't find it now, but I recall reading somewhere that the Judge criticised her boyfriend for letting her take to the roads as a novice.
I despair at the way this case has turned out. -

This is a heartbreaking story. I remember reading about last month when the non-guilty verdict was delivered and being gobsmacked.
Poor girl.
It's hard to read that letter - and indeed the court copy - without feeling angry.
For sure there has been no justice for Denisa or her family and friends.
The worst thing is this is unlikely to have been the verdict of a rogue jury: juries consistently fail to convict drivers on what appears to be strong evidence of wrongdoing.
As much as we like to think attitudes, conditions and safety for cyclists have improved, a case like this suggests things have hardly progressed at all.
Such a needless waste of life.
