Sram Force ! 22 ! SSCX Chainset Conversion

Posted on
  • I've got a Sram Force 22 chainset and want to convert it for my Nature Boy sscx.

    • Sram have moved to this hidden 5th arm design, Are they still standard 110 or 130mm (compact and standard respectively) 5 arm rings?

    • As far as I can tell I can still wack on any 5 arm cyclocross inner ring and then put a Salsa Crossing Guard or All City Cross Wizard on the outer, as you could with the 'older' force chainset... is this correct? Would the new arm design interfere with this?

    • If I wanted to go 1 1/8" for my drivetrain are there rings available? Does anyone make 1 1/8" singlespeed cogs for cassette freehubs?

  • Not sure why you'd want to go 1 1/8" for SSCX.

  • I don't really, but It'll also be my wet weather commuter and I like how long a track chain lasts.

  • The rings are still the same and you can but other brands on, the only difference is that the pin that stops the chain getting caught between the chainrings and crank arm will be in a different place therefore useless. Not a problem with the inner ring. You can get force cyclocross chainrings in the new arm design though if you want.

  • For anyone who wants to swap in non stock chain rings on the new 11 speed SRAM hidden 5th bolt cranks...

  • Looking at those photos of the Force 22 crank - is the spider removable?

  • Yep apparently so, there's a removable alloy spider to swap between compact 110 and 130 bcd, que someone to manufacture alternative bcds after market. 94 bcd double would be nice for a super compact double, randonneur lightweight road bike tourer stylee! I doubt sram would do it, after all it wouldnt cater to all us 'pro racers'.
