Tightening Old Shamal Spokes - Tool Needed!

Posted on
  • Morning all

I have an old set of Shamals and the rear finally needs truing (and one spoke is doing nothing so some tensioning too!)...problem is, none of the tools I have will allow me to tighten the nipples...they're internal and bolt head only (i.e. no screwdriver head on them which would make life a whole lot easier)

Does anyone have, or better still know where I can get, a socket tool that will be able to do the job (I've tried a few shops already and nothing)? Don't want to take it to the shops yet as I'm sure I'll need to tighten it again in the future so might as well have the tool myself...

    Cheers, Zack

  • I have one of those triple-headed Park Tool internal nipple wrenches that has a 3.2mm square socket (can't work out how that works) and a 5mm hex head and a 5.5mm hex head. Happy to bring it into town to lend. I bought it for a pair of cosmos wheels but found that the walls of the 5.5mm socket were too think to fit into the hole on the rim.

  • Cheers Ludd, I might struggle to fit the tool through the hole on the rim too but worth a try! PM'd
