Bus lanes crapped in Liverpool
How will this relieve congestion?
I thought that that would be perfectly obvious, although the generally accepted technical term is, of course, 'constipation'. :)

Serious answer: It will, of course, not relieve congestion.

Wonder how long the trial is for and what how the council will measure its impact

Nine months it seems

And the Liverpool echo has a poll
(50/50 at the moment)

There are established measurements for congestion, e.g. calculating 'intersection delay' (also called 'vehicle delay').

Mathematical models always rely on assumptions and a particular kind of input, and you can make your models do pretty much whatever you want.

Liverpool council is utterly inept in my experience.

As a local i can tell you that their are not that many lanes but fundamentally they are the main routes into the city. Being only one side next to the Mersey everything it funnelled to bus lanes do have a valuable function, If you live in the north of the city Walton or West Derby your safe routes will become very compromised. Its a wrong decision when other cities are adding lanes and bus/tram routes.
Finally can i remind you all of the councils failure in not getting trams back. -

Also going South heading to Garston, Speke through Wavetree riding on the the bus lane is easy and fast to travel 3/4 miles to and from town. It is madness making it harder to cycle and get the bus. (though there is always the Otterspool Promenade).
Bet the taxi drivers aren't too happy either. -

I didnt mention the south as many can use the parks to go through or the prom. Plus the dock road if you can rough it with the lorries and rail lines. Interesting after dark down there !.

Stupid. The U.K. needs to employ some more dutch people!
-
• #18
^That's what the dutch are good at.
We're good at bus lanes. (Though perhaps not in Liverpool ) -

I used to love riding on the dock road at night! Need to man up!
Shit news about the bus lanes though.

They have a paper updated copy doing the rounds that i saw in the bike shop today.
Why have merseytravel not kicked up a fuss over losing their lane advantages? -

Now crapping bus lanes being considered in Sheffield

Thats what happens with all this best practice b#lcks, they all think yeh yeh yeh, floating monorails run on magnets will all get us to work in 3 minutes from anywhere
lets do it. In reality its getting to your destination safely and in the best most efficient manner that is the best way. Unfortunately thats walking or cycling and there is money to be made from that. -

Will discourage bus use and cycling
