  • I'd swallow the loss - it's small in the context of the overall cost of this project. But a buggeration nonetheless

  • ^ I think this, if you look at the big picture in costs then it's not massive, have you contacted the seller, told him it'll be worth very little to most people in it's condition and try to reason?

  • maybe it would also help to get somebody italian help you translate? i reckon doing it in italian could help persuade the seller more..

  • Oh man... that's a real shame.
I'd be tempted to return the frame and put the cash towards another frame, if for no other reason than to fucking win!

Would you have bought it if you knew it was broken? Maybe now is the time to just start again...

If it's just the top-tube and dropout bend I'd still buy the frame but knowing damage to the fork is irreparable I wouldn't have bought it. Very tempted to return the frame too just to WIN but I've given much effort to this project already.

This truly sucks! Would it be too much of a gamble to return the frame and then renegotiate with seller? Probably a stupid idea, I just can't bear the thought that the little cunt is getting away with this.

Tell me about it but I'd lose that gamble knowing that I've given my all to win the claim. You have no idea how many times I've re-appealed the case, 4 times!

Given his packing skills, I wouldn't trust it to get back to you without further damage if you did send it back.

This. And yes I've contacted the seller, still trying to get a partial refund. Told him the potential loss he'd get if I return the frame vs. giving me a partial refund.

Do you speak Italian? PMing you now.

  • maybe it would also help to get somebody italian help you translate? i reckon doing it in italian could help persuade the seller more..

In my experience customer service from Italians is better in English. Perhaps they know you expect more or perhaps they're just not eloquent enough to tell you lies.

Of course this only applies when speaking English is acceptable; don't walk into a local supermarket and complain to them in English.

  • Thanks! Unfortunately it's 5cm too short

  • what about havng the steer tube switched out?

  • Switching the steerer, then shortening the legs to get track clearances: $$$$$$$$
If it were me, I'd add up all the cash it's likely to cost getting this frame sorted out (resprays / decals / mending, etc) and have a look at options to replace it. I bet you'd find something less ball-achy and more authentic / original for the same price.

That said, I do understand if it's the journey and not the destination that's important here.

  • how about this for a wild idea?:
given that ole ritters original hour attempt bike was actually built by banani, one could argue that you'd be closer to authenticity by sourcing an old banani track bike and respray it as benotto.
there's still a few of them around over here.

  • But wasn't it build by pogliaghi?

I had THE original impossible hour frame, for a few weeks. no fork, but the frame, verified by the man himself.

Most of Ole Ritters frames (inc. the IH bike) was made by danish framebuilder Banani. and then labelled benotto for sponsor reasons. BUT this frame was made by pogliaghi!
The frame had RITTER stamped into the bottom bracket shell.

  • All possible solutions however I've contacted several framebuilders in UK. 5 out 7 said they can't because the fork's too far gone. Tom Donhou said the same and offered to build me the exact fork for £200, obviously not a solution. However, Mercian Cycles and Argos replied saying they can straighten the fork! So I've sent the fork to argoscycle yesterday and many fingers crossed hope they can track the fork!

Before I even had wilder idea. A forumonger who knows a "legendary" framebuilder in Europe contacted me weeks ago offering to build me a Moser track fork. We've been talking the size, rake, etc etc and I'd even let the Moser engravings stay on the crown. It would've been like this. Unfortunately the framebuilder has fallen sick and obviously can't do anything for now. That's when I started contacting framebuilders in UK.

  • Wow, what a story so far.

    Subbed and best of luck.

  • I haven't updated this thread for quite some time, can't believe it's almost 2 months. Been busy with work and moving. Anyway, here it is:

Fork's realigned, dent's filled, dropout's straightened! And it's for SALE..

    Just kidding.

  • That's a lovely thing. Just read through the thread, you must be happy with the way things have turned out. Look forward to seeing it built up.
