and frankly, if they fail to spot a bunch of fluoro coppers at a junction and get caught, they can't be relied upon to spot a ped crossing the road or a van or car about to squish them.

I 100% agree with this. Personally I almost never RLJ, but I'm pretty relaxed about people doing it safely.
