Need a help in choosing the right spoke length pls. I know spokes have tolerance of +/- 1mm but in a case of shallow rims like this Mavic Piste it's better to round down.
However my calculated spoke length is 291.4mm. CRC only sells even size so I can go either 292mm or 290mm. And the spoke nipple is 12mm. Should I round up or down?

what spoke and spoke nipples are you using and what calculator are you using?
if it's dt dwiss all you need to do is get 14mm nipples (which are threaded 1mm longer) so the calculated length would be 292.4, you round down = 292mm spokes
and good luck, this is one of those projects that you'll take a step back at the end and smile and think it was all worth it

yeah then, if you got 291.4 with the dt swiss one using 12mm nipples, get 14mm nipples and 292mm spokes.
tip: rosebikes is generally the cheapest for dt swiss spokes, especially if you're ordering 50+, give me a shout if you are because i need to order some soon and we could share postage.

i've built a few wheels and always rounded down (and sometimes still got the spokes popping out of the nipple a wee bit)..

surely, if the nipples have longer threads, you round the spokes down to 290.

I'll second that! I've never had any problems with rounding down the calculated spoke length, let's say 1½ mm. I actually did so on the last wheel I build this summer using the Edd spoke calculator, and ended up with the spokes ending flush at the nipple ends.

I'd say 290 is fine with 12mm nipples too.
is it the same length for radial front and nds rear? -

shit, this is what i meant, it's been a long day, thanks dron
and roger musson (expert wheelbuilder) says that you should never go out of 1mm up or down, it's better to go down but in this situation if you stay with 12mm nipples then you should go with 292mm.

is it the same length for radial front and nds rear?Unfortunately not since flanges on front and rear are differ in size.
Thanks for the replies guys. I'll go with rounding down because I miscalculated, feel free to CMIIW (all with 12mm nipples):
Front DS & NDS Radial: Now at 289.9 --> 290mm
Rear DS 3 Cross: 301.2 --> 300mm
Rear NDS Radial: 287mm --> 286mm -

Isn't the rear 2x and radial non ds?

Good to know! Cheers guys. That means I can still use current 16 spokes for rear DS

I had THE original impossible hour frame, for a few weeks. no fork, but the frame, verified by the man himself.
Most of Ole Ritters frames (inc. the IH bike) was made by danish framebuilder Banani. and then labelled benotto for sponsor reasons. BUT this frame was made by pogliaghi!
The frame had RITTER stamped into the bottom bracket shell.Rumor has it, that the same story goes for the first cinelli lasers. The were also made by banani for the danish rider H.H. Ørsted.
Cinelli was on the brink of banruptcy and needed something new and wild and Ørsted was the perfect rolemodel. -

Wow! Did you sell it in the end? Love to see it! Have pics?
How did you get Ole's verification? Been trying to contact him for days and still no reply.

I bought in 2006 from a a velodrome jumble for around 55 pounds. Nobobody knew what the frame was and the fork was missing.
Decided to sell it again and the buyer got in contact with Ole, who told him that the frame had dissapeared from him many years ago. He wanted it back, but the buyer got to keep it eventually. He rode it here in Copenhagen, on the streets, until he crashed and bent the top tube and downtube :-/ -

My fork could probably be the missing fork because it's badly bent and yet there no signs the frame's been crashed

Brilliant, the whole thing!

Well, my PayPal claim backfired. PayPal decided the claim in my favour but apparently they've changed their policy recently. So now instead of issuing full refund first then returning the item, they are asking buyer to return the item first and upon receipt they will then issue full refund to buyer!
My only options now are to return the frame and get a full refund or cancel the claim completely and receive nothing! Obviously the latter is preferred but I'm just really bummed the seller got away with this. Avoid this seller at all cost!

Oh man... that's a real shame.
I'd be tempted to return the frame and put the cash towards another frame, if for no other reason than to fucking win!Would you have bought it if you knew it was broken? Maybe now is the time to just start again...

This truly sucks! Would it be too much of a gamble to return the frame and then renegotiate with seller? Probably a stupid idea, I just can't bear the thought that the little cunt is getting away with this.

Given his packing skills, I wouldn't trust it to get back to you without further damage if you did send it back.
Right. Doh!
