  • It's looking like it will be a bit damp all day but no very heavy rain. Quite warm.

10 top tips for long rides in the wet: mudguards, mudguards, plasters on the nipples, mudguards, good quality socks, mudguards, clingfilm your electronics, mudguards, mudguards and mudguards.

The Beeb forecast looks better than the Met Office one, unfortunately they are often wrong and the MO are more reliable.

Alas I haz no mudguards and my working bike has no space for them, happy to hang off the back if its raining. I'll spend the next day or so making sacrifices to the gods asking for dryness.

And I thought you meant put plasters on all the nipples on the wheels for a minute there, what a faff. Then the penny dropped, luckily I only have 3 nipples so thats much easier haha.

  • To be on the safe side, best to clingfilm your nipples and put plasters on your mudguards and electronics in your socks.

  • So it's worth me going out and buying some £30 Crud Roadracer Mk2 from my LBS?

  • As far as this sort of thing can be trusted four days in advance...

Looks like there's some threatening weather on the horizon. Big fat rain cloud cutting across the country, but it might not reach as far south as London. Guess we'll find out!

  • So it's worth me going out and buying some £30 Crud Roadracer Mk2 from my LBS?

I would. I put those on my canyon after getting a stripe of what I'm choosing to believe is mud up my back on a long ride.

  • I remember ploughing through a minefield of sheep turds on a Welsh road. The splatter wasn't even the same colour as mud, so there could be no fooling myself.

I've used Roadracers on two bikes before. They're a pain to fit (but I find all mudguards a pain). I will wait until we have a more accurate weather forecast for Saturday, then panic buy in an OLBS - an overpriced London bike shop.

  • Sidcup Place pub has agreed to open at 7.15am to prepare us for our 7.30am depart.

The pub is offering hot baps filled with either fried egg, sausage or bacon @ £1.99 each. Costa tea @ £1.79 each. Costa coffee @ £2.50 each.

Please add to this list so I can book numbers. I will order and pay for a few extra anyway to cater for late arrivals who can grab something before the off.

  • Hey Earthloop, I reckon it would be a good idea to keep updating the first post so that it shows practical details such as start time and place, any strategies for staying together (you mentioned an app?) and any breaks/stops if people plan to tag along at later times.

  • Hi guys. Any chance to join the event? I'm completely new here, found the info on London Cyclist and it looks like a great way to end the season ;)

Don't have fixie tho, just a regular road one.

  • ^ The more the merrier. And I'm just on a road bike too.
