  • Do I need a degree in Nordic languages to sign up?

this is a popular saying in Oslo..
kan jeg spy på pikken din?

  • almac68

    You're being very rude.

  • Asking first.

    Seems very polite to me.

^^can you not even puke on cock correctly? noobz doing it wrong...
    .

  • I've gone for 8:54am. With a view that I don't want to get sucked into going too fast with the faster people. Also it means that if I finish in 24hrs it will be 9am which is nice - worst case it takes 27hrs which is the cut-off for my start time.

SF, we departed at midnight last time..
much prefer a 8am start and a crack at 24hrs..

    cheers..
    A

I get paid this evening so I'm signing up for this then.

Sounds like you guys went over the mountains during the night last year. I very much prefer to get them done during the day. Difficult to predict conditions up here of course. But I'd be willing to guess that this will make the whole thing a lot easier, or less brutal at least.

I'd like to start as early as possible. But dont really feel confident enough to join the 18 - 20 hour pool. As the 20 - 24 hour pool starts only 24 mins after. I think I'd like to stick to my original idea of 09:18.

Pretty much planned what I need, and purchased what I did'nt have of that. So all that remains is a shed load of training. Most of which will be done on a combination of a snowbike, and the turbo trainer. Going to be a fun winter.

  • SF, all you need to remember is that the event closes at 12pm on sunday.
    work backwards from there.

And yes, riding through the night twice, was meh..

    Al

  • When I was looking at target times. I thought 20 hours would be a massively ambitious. But not impossible target. It doesnt really give much allowance for breaks TBH.

    Start - 09:18
Climb to Dombås at 25kph average - 17:17
Desend to Kvittfjell at 32kph average - 20:32
Continue to Oslo at 28kph average - 04:58
    Total time = 19hour 40mins

I can picture getting to Kvittfjell for 9pm. A brutal challenge maybe. But one I can train for.

After that I have no idea. Its all a bit insane. so anything between 8 1/2 hours, 16 hours, or not at all.

  • Done.

  • Fuck.

Remember the timings are so riders can ride with other people at the same speed... I would suggest not trying to keep up with them unless you're quite strong, else you risk blowing up quite badly half way - it's a gamble, plenty of time to train though.

Those are my timings based on what, for me, would be the low end of an endurance level power output. So in very basic terms 20 hours is a theoretical goal.

This doesnt take into account fatigue, sleepiness, stopping to piss, or anything. So you could add at least 4 hours easy.

I average over 30kph on 100+km rides, around west Norway, riding fixed. A touch more maybe on the road bike, but with notably less fatigue. I cant see any benifit in riding below endurance pace. I'll just get worn down by saddle time in the same number of hours anyway. Its the saddle time that has me worried to be honest.

At the end of the day, I'll train for max power/kg for the Nibbedobbel'n, and max distance for Styrkeprøven. So by the time it comes around, while I may not be much stronger. I will have a solid knowledge of my strength.

I'm naturally a slow starter anyway. Much better to start slow, warm up, build, and over take the fast fast starters. Then to start fast, get tired, and get over taken by the slow starters. If only for the mental boost of overtaking folk towards the end (yes I'm a bit of a cnut).

  • SF, well done..

despite knowing how hard this is, i want to be back again in trondheim and oslo...

making it to the start line is where the psychological battle begins.. ride with us, the organisers are flexible about small groups setting off together, so please don't worry, we dont take ourselves very seriously, expect alot of banter and laughs along the way

    cheers
    Al

  • Al what time you planning on starting then? My entry is done, just got to get Rob signed up.

  • in for an 8am start... gives us 28hr time limit..

  • Sounds good to me. Better see if my bike still works then.

  • Am I missing something?

I read it as 09:18am being the earliest for 20-24 hours.
Before that its 16-20 hours, 12-16 hours, and a few specialist team starts (some german thing at 08:00am).

I guess the cut off is a good few hours over your highest predicted. But I did'nt see it written anywhere.

  • My understanding is they are pretty flexible, maybe Al can confirm. I'm actually booked for the midnight start I think, but bugger that.

Basically the cutoff is midday Sunday, so just work back from there.

  • But the earlier starts were for quicker times?

I get this. As it would lead to less overtaking, and bunching up. But it does mean they have a longer cut off.

I'm not worried. Just hate the logistics in these things. I'd have single speed birkerbeiner here long ago. If I could be arsed with the logistics.

  • Apart from the midnight start, then yeah the other start times are assigned to people based on what time they want to complete within, the earlier starters will in effect have a longer cutoff.

Everything is a bit vague on the website, but if you've got any questions shoot Morten an email. The guy is mega helpful. Can send you his email if you need it?

  • i prefer 8am start.. im not riding through the night twice again

  • email from Morten, he is a decent bloke and sorted out our travel changes and hotel bookings for us, last minute changes even changing your start time...

  • So Al, when did we book flights for this last year?

  • I've been pretty focused on this. All my research, and personal testing, has lead to the same conclusion. That I'd be better off doing a few fast laps of a velodrome or crit course, then spending more than an hour on my bike. So it should be fun :)

Signing up for Bergen-Voss, as well as Nibberittet. Plus I hope to spend Easter doing big rides in Mallorca.
