  • I bet it does but it just pissed me because he obviously lied to me. Anyway, he suggested me to send back the fork and he can either unbend it or send me a non-Benotto fork. So I said that's not a good solution. Regarding the top-tube he said he can't do anything about it.

You bet pal! I spent a whole week doing my research and endless parts hunting, day and night, only to find out that the frame is flawed! I paid through PayPal but not eBay, but I am 100% protected. Triple checked that with PayPal before completing the transaction. Unfortunately there's no NDS pic on the listing, only DS, head-tube, and seat-stays. Come to think of it, it seems he's deliberately didn't take pics on these sides, which makes me even more disappointed!

So after listening on what he has to offer I proposed my solution.

    1. Since I am 100% protected by PayPal I can always return the frame to him and get a full refund including the postage cost I paid him to get the frame to me. He will also have to give me money to ship the frame back to him. OR..

    2. To give me partial refund/compensate me for these damages. I quoted him the price of a new fork that I found on eBay, not track fork though, and an estimated price to get the top-tube undented.

Anyway, what amount of money £ do you guys think is fair if he chose to compensate me?

Great build. Damage is a pain but a good framebuilder can fill the dent with brass, getting the forks and rear end straight should not be too much trouble, only thing is with a full respray is going to cost you £400+ (based on my past projects) The seller should cough up £200 as it looks like old damage to me. Plus point once sorted you'll have one hell of a bike which will only increase in value. My view your saving a classic

  • Other issues solved now pal. Fork is currently irreparable because reasons mentioned on page 2. And everything will cost me less than £150, including respray and a new fork.

  • Got the hubs in the post today, and several items (1R + giro, SR Pista headset and temporary Croce D' Aune bb until I can afford actual SR bb) collected over the week:

  • Been procrastinating for weeks now on wheelbuilding. Today seems like a good day to do it.

  • Excellent. Has the frame issue been resolved yet?

  • On last paypal's claim step. Just need to go to LBS to get appraisal on the damages and send the quote to paypal.

  • And done, though still slightly out of true.

And noticed there's something wrong with the front wheel. Do you guys think Ole's front wheel laced radially?

  • Not entirely radial from the look of it, but it does look a bit odd... I would love to know the story behind lacing the wheel that way, as I'm sure it's not a coincidence, let alone a basic mistake.

  • Looks radial to me.... I am on a shit phone atm though

  • Looks entirely radial to me. And I'm on a 32" monitor.

  • Radial here on my phone too.

  • I think it's Radial, but the photo makes it look like some spokes are 2 cross.
I don't think they actually are though.

  • This.

  • Yep, looks radial to me. Also just came across this amazing project. Subscribed.

  • Man you gotta love this thread! :-) kal_yxo: I wish you the best of luck getting the financial issues and frame/fork problem sorted out :-)

Ole's front wheel does indeed look fully radially laced, and his rear wheel is definitely radially laced on the non-drive side ;-)

Closeups from The Impossible Hour documentary where Ole's mechanic is changing the cog:

  • Thanks guys and seansmiller! One of the reasons I really want a Benotto is that movie, watched (and downloaded) from dailymotion too!
I wish you hadn't mention the rear lacings but if that's Ole's setup guess I'll do the same. That nds rear, is that 2cross?

Back to the drawing board! Hope crc will accept exchange on these spokes.

  • front is radial both sides
rear is 3x ds and radial nds.
gonna ba a sick set. do you have the spoke counts right?

  • Yes I do:
Front will be 290mm both sides
    Rear DS 287mm, NDS 301mm

And all my spokes are wrong, they're 294 and 296mm.

  • Love the attention to details... I can't wait to see the finished result.

  • Dibs if you're selling.

  • and I need this stem.
off course it should say 'drøn' instead, though

  • you now need these

Still a subject of debate. The photo on 1st post shows regular pedals with clips and straps. Also bear in mind that I'll be using this bike quite regularly so M71 would not be practical

    Is that your Benotto, dron?

  • nope. it's francescos
