Tentative. Looks like a nice ride and, more to the point, can stock up on cream-cheese bagels for the ride.

How many people are doing this fixed?

I might.
If the forecast is dry you're more likely to see me on something sans mudguards, with gears. -
• #55
Possibly me although I may decide on SS last minute if i'm feeling frail.

A month away? Sounds about right for the roadie maiden voyage which is very tempting...
Although Cambridge is one of the easiest routes for long distance fixed.
This was my setup last time:
I regretted the risers a little after 75% of the route but then we were almost there so It wasn't really so bad.
If anyone on the list has yet to do 60+miles fixed, definitely go for it, it's not a big deal.

Fixed. Definitely. It's a perfect ride for one good spinny gear. I'll be on 68".
-

I'm undecided - I commute on fixed every day, so it's nice to stretch the legs with gears at the weekends, but as folks have said this route is a lovely one for fixed. As with Jurek, my decision may be made by the weather.
-

Skully, 68 is a bit high, toying with this but will only be on 65.
Not putting my name on the list yet as I like to remain illusive.

Or elusory?

I'll be fixed at 70 to 75" depending on if I get my wheel repaired...
-
• #63
Can somebody please add me to the list?
I'll be riding fixed, 70.5"

Sounds like a great ride, would love to take part but only on a SS unless I have the courage to flip the hub before then.
Did you know this ride is advertised on the London Cyclist by Andreas. Is he on here?
-
• #65
It's an ideal ride to flip the hub on, get used to the constant turn of the pedals out of town with minimal stop starts. Plus we all get to watch if you stack it*.
*Not meant to be said out loud.

Lets see, should be getting a fixed wheel to replace mine this weekend so if I do go for it will give me some time to figure out what ratio to go with too...
Currently 48/16 on SS will I need to change the rear at all?
-
• #67
That's quite a high (3:1) ratio but if it's OK for single speed it ought to be OK fixed. If anything, I'd use a lower gear for riding single speed because you can always coast downhill, whereas on fixed you might want a higher gear for the descents so you don't spin out.

I changed from 48/16 to 48/17 for the last Cambridge slide which definitely made a difference riding fixed. I quite want to come on this ride so I am a provisional yes, depending on how many others will be fixed as I don't want to hold back the pack

does anyone want to ride back?

• #70
What sort of pace do you do on a fixed/ss ride?
Not like a roadie club ride at 18+mph average?

Yes, it's too high. Running an unvariable gear that high will give you knee damage in the long run. Go to 42/16 or something similar (around 70gi). Most other riders who are fixed will be around that ratio. 48/16 is gearing for the track, not for the road.

yes, if I can borrow someone's proper lights?

Would consider it if the weather's good enough - I don't fancy grinding back through rain, but my commuting bike generates its own 3W power supply, so the darkness is not a problem. (in fact most of my non-commute riding is done at night)

I can see how you would struggle on 48/16... I'll be fine.
Not yet. Runners with earphones in with their back to me is my main problem - they seem to make sudden random moves into my path for no reason when i'm metres behind them. Induces rapid onset of tourettes and a shitty chamois.
