  • Travelling light != taking cooking gear. Eat from cafes/pubs/shops.

Want to bank roll my trip then!? :)

With the MSR do you throw away the canister and use a new one, or can you re-fill them? /idiot.

  • single use gas canister

and, do you have a good sleeping bag?

  • Proberbly not. I have one and it looks good, but I don't think it cost more than £40!

    Suggestions?

  • Boil and drink from same cup. Let it cool or you'll have very sore lips.
If you're worried abt sleeping bag go army surpass, good for -15.
    Don't bother with tent...... :)

  • army surplus can be good, but ime they are quite bulky. on the other hand a fleece liner inside a 2 season synthetic bag separates the bundles for packing and is good for a frosty night (-5). snugpak are a good make

the tent/not tent question is interesting. if this were long days where most post-ride activities could be carried out in early evening light then a bivvy is a good idea. however if there's a prospect of 3-4 hours with no light, plus no shelter from wind or rain, then bivvying would after a couple of nights become challenging.

  • I'm conscious that I'm probably showing my age here, but I'd rather pack a tent with a lobby area in which I could sit, mug of tea in hand, and read my book whilst it pissed down outside, glancing up every now and then to take in the magnificant, if wet, vista.

The tent that we have is big enough to hang clothes up in to dry - although that said I'm not sure how long it would take for said drying to happen if it was a) very cold and b) very humid.

But still- I think being able to choose how involved you are with the weather will make a significant difference to your state of mind.

  • I would rather stay in a B&B. Apparently they are pretty waterproof.

  • I will take a tent over a bivvy. Summer bivvy for sure, but with it being november in the UK a tent is essentail imo.

Anyone got tent suggestions. Think I'm there with the rest now.

Can't get my hands on a frame till the 20th though.

  • bro, that's snow

  • bro, that's snow

    Snow is angry water.

  • I used a 1-man macpac tent. It worked quite well. Apparently you can get much cheaper or lighter ones these days. Whatevs man, whatevs. #nohelp

  • My tent's amazing but cost a small fortune so probably not very helpful. It's a Hilleberg FWIW.

Everyone on here was raving about a one person tent a while back... Terra Nova Laser possibly?

  • Everyone?

  • Well, everyone in that way that happens on here when two people mention it and all of a sudden it's The Thing To Have. See also: H+sons, 531, maxxis re-fuse, nuun, tandems.

  • bike fit...

  • In scotland: http://www.mountainbothies.org.uk/faq.asp

Ah wicked thanks. Though this does mean I might have to face to face talk to people. Think i'd rather wild camp, than talk to people.

  • yha is a really good shout, adroit, and at the time of year skinny is planning to go there should be no issues with lack of space, or even people to avoid!

tent wise, a cheap festi-tent would be better than a bivvy, although as dammit mentioned up thread, one with a vestibule/porch adds versatility, and may even allow the bike to be stored out of the elements if need be.

  • Arn't they, yha, >£15 a night?

Not really wild camping. I want to be out there, in the elements. Finding myself and that shit.

Yes was planning on taking a tarp to wrap the bike in over night.

  • Finding yourself? Bathroom. Mirror. Sorted. #fuckinghippies

  • Well hopefully I won't get so lost I lose myself. But who knows. Maybe I will be finding myself.

  • Is this the front light to have? Or is there a better option
