It's another race, in a season of races. Yes great to win, special honour and all that but if there's no chance of winning, or having the legs, why slog your guts out to finish? Because its the world championships and riding for Team GB is the greatest honour to be bestowed upon a cyclist?
If the big british riders had pulled out before hand, citing, fatigue, the course not suiting, or just not being arsed, you would have been the first to put the boot in. If the team had sent some callow youth riders to "gain experience" you would have said team GB don't treat the Championships seriously enough.
Its only recently that we've had riders good enough and winning enough to actually be able to send a full squad to the world championships and be in with a shout of winning the damn thing, so a bit of fucking gratitude to the riders who worked so hard to give Cav a chance of wearing the rainbow jersey for 12 months, rather than expecting them and the others that rode today and didn't finish the course to live upto some impossibly high standards that exist only in your head.
again Lynchman why?
