Rear of the forks with some surface rust that could be easily removed and touched up in bright red....the crown is solid

  • Yes it does, thank you.
I have e-mailed Argos for a quote to repair/ or replace the TT. I will make you an offer after I get the quote.

    Cheers.

Looking at Argos Racing price list:

    Replace TT=£110
    Repair dent=£10
    Single colour respray=£140 [enamel]
Two extra colour overspray =£65.....to add the yellow and black

    Not forgetting the frame decals......c£30....and 531 decals...£10?

I would end up owing you money.....i just bought a Roberts for £50...it was in bad condition...so i got it repaired and resprayed...it again looks lovely.....but i am not going to sell the TI Raleigh track frame for £50....it cost £215....and that is my price!.....if no one is interested....i might try retrobike or just keep her....which what i leaning towards.

  • Does the dent affect the frame in anyway?
No need to replace it if it doesn't. I'm tempted to get the myself after rent day.

  • These frames have a great history... was tempted to get one from Alister myself but never got round to it. Must not buy this one. GLWS.

  • I see you are familiar with the charges. I just wasn't sure the dent could be pulled-out, and fixed.

I am keen to acquire this frame to compliment my W frame. The frame will not be butchered, but will be sent to Universal C C to be spruced up by Dave Marsh and his mates - same people who built and painted the frame at SBDU.

If it had a history in that it belonged to someone significant, I wouldn't respray but since it's more a classic than a piece of history, I am quite happy to have Dave work on it, afterall it was him and his 2 mates who put it together in the firat place anyway.

Can you ship the frame to SW7? I am not in a hurry as I will be away until 6 Nov.

Advice cost and payment, I am away and therefore can only use paypal unless you can wait until 6 Nov.

    We can continue via PM

    Cheers!

No it does not effect the frame's integrity in anyway.....so, the TT does not need replacing...moreover it would spoil the frame.

Dave Marsh...worked at Carlton....not sure about SBDU.....i will send you a pm.....but because it was not used by a significant cyclist...does not stop it being iconic.....and i think it wrong to alter it or spruce it up

I suggest you remove your email address...crank emails!

  • Noted, thanks.

  • I want it to be purchased by someone who values it for what it is.....and won't renovate it......it should be as it is.....the patina makes it special.....even if no one famous rode it.....isn't being iconic enough?

  • looks like the fork is bent?

  • Hi Leon,

It is with sadness that I read your above post.

I thought we already had a gentlemen's agreement when you informed me that we would meet for the transaction.

While I can, and will agree with you regarding keeping what's good original. I believe any responsible cyclist should ensure the structural integrity of the frame since the bike will be lovingly used on public roads and all. And as for the fork, the rust must be treated to prevent further corrosion. I think we owe it to the 'icon' so to speak.

I trust any bicycle lover would do no less, not to mention that I am sending it to a reputable shop to have it done. My apologies, perhaps Dave did not work at SBDU, but one cannot dispute that Rick Powell and Phil Insley were there no less than 'GOD' as you quoted.

However, since you did not accept any deposit, I really cannot in anyway insist you honor your end of the agreement. I will however keep to mine.

Appreciate you advice so I can know what I already have and what I do not. As for the price, I do not think it is appropriate to now ask for more just so you could be persuaded to let it go. With all due respect, I am afraid I cannot accede to that, not for the reason you have given.

We shall for all practical purposes agree to disagree on what is iconic and what is classic. To me the icon part of Raleigh was the '753 Team Road Bike' (just like the E-Type was to Jaguar).

Lastly, I do find it inconsistent and somewhat strange that for someone as passionate as you have come across to be, that you would use a non period-correct suspension seatpost, a columbus fork, cleat pedals, as well as a riser stem on the bike (as per the pictures you have chosen to use) and also your allowing the rust to remain on the fork. Pardon me, please and once again with all due respect.

    Cheers!

  • One of these.

Not a GOD one, just a Worksop one.

    It was a great bike.

It was Dulux emulsion white when I bought it and I resprayed it.

I was gonna dibs and buy this one but funds just won't stretch at the moment.

Lovely condition for age with original paintwork.

    A great buy for someone!

  • I do hope you find one when you are ready. They all deserve to be loved.

I will wait and see if this is my time.

    Cheers!

  • GOD=Gerald O'Donovan.....Chubby....i am sorry if i have offended you.....and you are probably right.....i am sending you another pm.

  • Yes, I do know who 'GOD' refers to in these forums although I personally wouldn't use that myself.

My apologies, I got emotional in my posting, notice I sent it in the early hour but no excuse really. Nonetheless, I needn't have come across as being curt and I apologize.

You do have every right to feel the way you do.

    A thousand apologies!

  • I am an atheist......so I have o problems calling him GOD.....they are his initials anyway.

So we were both on high horse mode.....so if you want.....it is yours.....£215 delivered to you in SW7....as previously agreed.....do with it what you feel is right.....your apology is accepted and hope you accepted mine!

  • This threads brought a tear to my eye... Such gents.

    Hello raleigh.

If you plan to keep it with the original paint then please make a mental
note of my forum name for if you go to sell some time from now then I'll take it off your hands without a fuss and keep it how it is. Cheers, james.

  • Chancertime.....Raleigh is out.....you in?

  • Leon,

    Apology accepted.

You PM me with your decision to allow me to "do what you want with it" and before I could acknowledge, you are offering it for sale here, what's going on?

In view of your indecisiveness, I think it is best for me to formally retract my offer to buy your frame.

6 Nov is still some days away and I do not have the confidence that the frame would remain available when the day comes.

    Best!

  • I think he's just keeping his options open. People on here are insanely flakey so it's always good to have a back up if the sale falls through. I'm pretty sure most people have experienced "I will defo buy it, just hold it for a week" only for that person to bail.
