I have insurance, am fully capable of doing all my own mechanical work, don't want chip timing and don't need the food and drink stops, being the proud owner of pockets. And I'm pretty sure St. John's Ambulance aren't charging for their services. If people are happy to pay for these things, brilliant, but I have to be fairly careful about where my money is going.
I do however want to ride with my friends, so I'll be using those public roads. And I'm very much in the minority, I'm sure.
