As this is going to be a ss - I think a cheaper and lighter option would be to buy a road wheel set and just singlespeed it.
It's what I've done with my Nature Boy, these are a good wheelset and Jonny is selling a pair for 50quid on here.
it's going to be primarily fixed, with the option of singlespeed for weekend rides with the missus.
The Nature Boy forks are nice (Ive bought some) but they are heavy as fuck, I'd keep an eye out for a straight rake carbon job. I guess they're pretty cheap at 100gbp from Triton.
I need steel forks for the TCB rack unfortunately, I'm not too concerned about weight, I'm kinda aiming for this to be a bit of a tank, something tough and strong I can bash about a bit.
I would go for a gxp bottom bracket. I have the Stronglight cranks and will in the near future replace them with a set of sram cranks - installation is just a breeze, which will be important on this build.
yeah I have omniums on my vig and agree about the gxp bb, ideally I would like SRAM cranks, I'm just not sure my budget will allow it just yet, maybe I'll be able to upgrade in the future
I would always go with drop bars and road brakes on a build like this because I think it's more versatile and nicer looking, obviously that is personal preference.
What were you thinking of spending on brakes?
Yeah I wasnt sure about bars to be honest, I figured I would need wider bars for more leverage with using the pretty massive front rack, plus this will be my getting to work, pootling around town bike so I'm not planning on covering big distances on it so the limited hand positions shouldn't be an issue. Drop bars do look pretty good on Pomps though.
as for a budget on brakes, I'm not sure. I know little to nothing about brakes. I dont want super expensive parts but then again I dont want shit parts either.
