• Any thoughts on the "cycling shirts"? Have they done them before?

  • Going to buy the winter shirt, gloves and baselayer top - got to be worth at least a try for the price

  • Anyone got in early doors? Any good stuff?

  • I'm at the Tottenham store now, merino base layers have been rinsed already, only large tops left :'(. Picked up a winter coat for me and the missus, the colours are a bit gash but you can't really moan at the price. Also picked up a winter top which seems pretty good. Anyway still loads of stuff but don't trek down if you're a light weight looking for a merino top, plenty of long johns tho!

  • Pity that, thats the only thing I wanted.

  • went to my local store at 8am on the way in. then i realised it was a fucking lidl not an aldi.

    poxy fucking generic brand identities.

will spend my money on some rapha as a consolation.

Not sure what you will get for £10 at Rapha mate ;)

  • ah but i was gonna stock up on a couple of bits.

One cup of coffee and a disapproving stare.

  • Got the last two medium base layers after digging through the whole messy pile, what fun!

  • Went to my current local Aldi at 8:30am this morning expecting the bike racks to be full and nothing left, but it seemed everything had been barely touched and there was one other couple perusing the bike bits.

Ended up blowing almost £50 on shit I don't really need like the socks and undercap when all I went in for was a merino base layer and some overshoes.

Before anyone gets too excited about a store with availability I'm afriad this was in Altrincham, Cheshire. Bit outside of London.

  • Do they do the baselayer in S? I didnt see the size on the website...

  • Just sent my parents to their local Aldi in Lincoln with my shopping list, fingers crossed!

  • ^^ Nope, just medium and large, I could do with a small.

  • Scrap that, not going to waste my time then, last time I tried the S gilet and it was too big. You pays your moneys...

  • Right, well that's sorted what I'm doing after work. Worth noting that the Merino Base Layers are 100% merino but the Merino cycling shirt/jersey is a blend.

Anyone know how the medium baselayer fits? I'm somewhere between a small and a medium.

  • No Merino in Nottingham this morning...
    maybe this evening...
    :(

  • Scored! Got there before the great unwashed.
2 base layers 1 thicker merino shirt and some long johns. Should keep me toasty under my Rapha soft shell.
I'll be riding for team Aldi/Rapha through the winter.

  • Welcome to Team Alpha!

  • Plenty of stock in the Walton branch this morning. There was plenty of interest too, but us cyclists are so polite there was never any danger of a scrum
Some of the range looks like complete tat, such as the over shoes and lights. I got a jacket and arm warmers - will report back after a winter of riding and washing

Can I just say, that the light set, the silver torch type one with back light. The back light is a bit shit, but the front light is really good. Takes AAA batteries but lasts a long time between replacement, I get 10 or 12 packs of batteries from the pound shop. Really bright, with flashing, constant and burst features. I'm getting a second one to double up for the dark months on the commuter. I've dropped it, used it hiking in the rain, used it in the mountains in the snow. really good buy for that money.

... For anything apart from proper unlit night riding, the front light does the job great....

  • Can anyone advise how the medium base compares in size to, say, a medium Rapha Classic Jersey?

I got a small winter jersey from Aldi last year and it's baggy as fook.

  • Thanks TM I was looking for that quote on the lights....

  • Picked up a merino base layer this morning. Really happy with it, however very disappointed in the stock. I'm from Dublin (Parnell street branch for any dubs) . I was near the front of the queue for opening and I nabbed the only medium base layer. They only had one of each size! I asked one the staff if they had any in the back if they had any more and they didn't. I would have bought two more.

  • By 10.30 in the Tottenham branch, grown men were fighting over the last of ladies merino base layer tops.
