What do you do at red traffic lights?

You are approaching the lights going straight ahead.
The lights are red.
There are 5 drivers queuing.

What do you do?

Stop behind the cars the drivers are in.

if enough space is given, i'd stay on the left, if not then either hop on to pavement (if not very busy) or go on the right hand side. but if lights are about to change i'd just hang fire so don't get cut up with drivers turning without me being ahead of them

Me too, always.
Oncoming drivers see you and drivers and you can move into the gaps in the queue if necessary. Drivers in the queue are more aware of their right where they expect to be overtaken.

Depends, if the front is clear and I know the lights aren't going to change before I get there, I'll move to the front, usually on the right or filter between cars.
If I'm not sure, I'll hang back and queue with the traffic.

Head out to the right - try to get to the front.
If the lights change as I'm in that position, I'm more visible than on the left.

Less likely to be man hole grates on the right, which not a big thing, but I have caught a wheel, stumbled on them before.

Yes its a major traffic light crossroad

The vast majority of riders pass on the left, like sheep, queuing with their foot on the kerb. (I know the feeder cycle lanes encourage this.)

Would be good to see more people either hanging back or passing right.

Depends on how many lanes there are. Depends on which direction I'm going in as well as the vehicles in front. If it looks everyone is going straight and I am what is wrong with getting there 6th and then setting off 6th?

Also you haven't mentioned whether there is an ASL. If there isn't why the fuck are folk on two pushing to the front? You wouldn't want to seen as entitled now.

I often hang back, centre lane - staking out my territory. Then I glide past the sheep who bunch up on the front left with the simple momentum of being part of the traffic.

I think this is key. People should see themselves as part of the traffic rather than fighting against it.

Assess the situation and ride accordingly i.e get to the front passing the queue on the right if and when it's feasible to do so.

Whatever you do make your intentions clear well in advance for all traffic.

Good point. Where there is no ASL getting ahead of the traffic is rljing though many riders do this

Personally. I like to ride. Fixed gear. No brakes. Can't stop, don't want to either.
