Just had a post bitch-slapped by the mod-hammer in the running thread for mentioning the online shop that shall not be named. The system works!
In my defense, there isn't currently a uk distributor for them which is why I bought from there.

Talking of trolling, I see that there is yet another "Schlick love fest" thread. Can they all be merged or, better still, deleted.
Trolling? Fuck off. -

I've updated the thread title and emailed the boss man.

Thanks Em. I worked on St Botolph Street for 22 years. Very sad.

I've deleted the Bike Gangs thread.
It was, despite a few people loudly proclaiming otherwise, nothing but a cesspit of sexist and misogynistic comments.
What finally broke the camel's back was learning that the subjects of some of the photos (the girls actually out there on their bikes doing stuff) were upset by the thread.
Any of the guys involved who cares to argue about the deletion and protest their innocence will be, at best ignored and, at worst banned.
It's rather simple: Be decent humans and drop the sexist shit.

Just a reminder to people that this is a public forum and the drivers registration is posted above.
Why isn't forum rider down thread in private!?

In general agreement with what's already been said, the "Bike Gangs" thread wasn't all bad; in fact lots of funny and interesting stuff... Agreed, some "contributors" went way way way over the mark and should be dealt with, but to label the entire thread, as "a cesspit of sexist and misogynistic comments" is somewhat unreasonable and unfair.
In the light of a number of people, male and female, being upset by some of the comments, and rightfully so, fair enough to delete it. That said, going forward perhaps a handful of idiots shouldn't be allowed to set the agenda and decide what goes and what doesn't. Just saying...

I thought the thread subject was interesting despite being launched with that sexist picture (and I agree with Lynchman).
I suppose nuking the whole thread was the easier option rather to deleting the offensive posts

What was sexist about the picture itself? It's one the Deadly Nightshades took themselves and were presumably happy with?
It was only when that noob came on the thread and posted his sexist comment that it got derailed.
I'd like to have a Bike Gangs thread on here, but if it isn't sexism it's probably stuff like the Go! Bomb Fixie Crew (which I have to admit I found funny, too, although not a good deal of what was posted) or the Fifth Floor Farrago which has potential to derail it. I'd hope not, but somehow we don't have such a great history with 'gang'-related threads. Perhaps I've just missed the unrelentingly positive ones. As far as I remember, the Trixie Chix one didn't get derailed (?), but that was when the forum was so much smaller and you didn't get randoms in who made stupid comments like the most recent ones.
Anyway, there'll be another one like that along sometime, I guess.

I agree it would make more sense. Is there support in general for it to be moved? i don't think it's just because of the latest discussion, it would be better for many things written in there, whether to do with speculation, or personal details of forum members.
Also - on the future forum will it be possible to have Private threads on Public areas of the forum?
-

^ I think this is a good idea, not so much for legal reasons but simply that when you're giving someone advice and tactics etc you might not want the "other party" to just casually google it.

I thought the rider down was supposed to be a kind of public record, maybe there needs to be a place to discuss the rider down threads in private, but I think the actual threads should be public.

TM was only asking why this thread wasn't private, not all the threads or the whole forum.
I suppose it was originally intended for minor incidents not necessarily involving forumengers as well as for forumenger incidents, but it's evolved to be almost exclusively the latter.

it is called "Forum Rider Down and/or notification of minor incidents" so it's not really surprising... and yes I also meant that thread in particular only, not the whole sub-forum.
Wouldn't that radically compromise the forum LIX measure?
