I don't know whether you have dimension requirements etc but this is a good price for a wound up. Mine is rad, and I think on the right bike they actually look pretty good

Cheers Snicks - good find but I'll be going through Tom. His policy is to try and get the customer to get the build kit through him - yes he probably makes a small margin but considering the amount of bikes he has to sell to make a living I think that's fair enough.
Here's the build pic with the ENVE forks:

Spec confirmed as follows:
Frame will have full touring stainless braze ons for a few years from now when I'm sensible. 44mm HT, stainless chain stays, stainless braze ons for cages and FD, external routing which I hope will mean that hydro brakes will be easy to spec in in the future and custom paint.

Why don't you use the TRP Hyrd discs as opposed to the Avids? Many people speccing out non-full-hydro road disc options at this point are going with the Hyrds.

What hinius said, unless you are weight weenie-ing

This sweet new Pretorius Outeniqua titanium road bike is using Hyrds:

Why get a setback saddle on a custom build? This is not a criticism btw, but i just thought setback posts were used as a solution to a problem?

I hate to jump on the bandwagon but I just ordered some Hy/Rd calipers this morning- looks like my BR-CX75's will never make it out of their boxes.
I've run road BB7's and to be frank found them to be disappointing and in need of constant fettling to keep them at their best.
I'd keep the finishing kit (stem/bars/seatpost) all from one supplier, but that's just me being OCD. I'm also not a big fan of Thomson stuff as (and I may be totally on my own here) it's been full of clicks and ticks for me.

You know when you get your heart set on something and you become completely blind to everything else...? That seems to have happened to me with regards to the brakes.
I hadn't even considered the TRPs cos I was so busy researching the Avids that I didn't even realise they existed!Setback post is a copy and paste job from Toms email, thanks for pointing out... I shall check.
Thomson kit... Honestly I'm at a bit of a loss here. I've got everything from IRD to One-One Midge to Bontrager to Thomson. I've never had any issues with any of it really so I am going for aesthetics over a total lack of functional knowledge....

The BB7's may well work for you- my experience of them was with SRAM levers, however friends who ran them with Shimano had a much better time of it.
AndyP tried to run road BB7 with Campag levers and went back to Canti's however- which would be why I would not use that combination personally.
I wouldn't worry about the post- if the frame builder has recommended a setback then I'd go for that, it's not exactly hard to change if it doesn't work for you.

Interesting build. I'm having the exact same thing spec'ed at the moment with Enigma; road bike with tourer accoutrements (braze ons etc).
Tricky field to navigate, best of luck with the final outcome!

Build complete.... Almost. Just braze ons to go. Components ordered, went for the TRP hy/rd in the end. Attached is a screen grab from Tom's Flickr.

The mudguard question is such a hard one. Do you go long drop or try and squeeze a 25mm under a short drop brake?
I'm going for the latter as having a non complete groupset would not sit right in my head. Why can't Shimano make a long drop DA 9000 brake?

Disc ;)

I was annoyed when I got my Rourke and realised I could have got normal reach brakes with 25's... but I've actually been really impressed with those long drop Shimano's (the ones Jason has too) and also I have the option to put 28's in the winter without pinching the guards.

for those of you worrying about the purity of a short/medium drop brake over a longer drop, I can safely say that once you have a mudguard on there, it looks absolutely normal.
-
• #46
Yeah but it'll look fucking whack when you take the guards off in summer.
-
• #47
I already have a summer bike. Mudguards 4 lyfe on the Rourke.

Colouring in time... Nothing quite so avant-garde as Dammit's lovely paper back but for me these colours have historical and personal meaning. They're my Regimental colours from the Welsh Cavalry. 5 years since I left, great times.
Anyway.... I'll try n integrate them in the post but flickr is shite from an iPad... any thoughts on the paint would be gratefully received.
