Convert drop bars to flat - original quill stem

I have a Dawes 5 speed tourer which I converted to a fixie with the original (lovely) drop bars and Milremo quill stem. My girlfriend has asked me to put flat bars on it so she can ride it but there are a few different sizes available. It is too narrow to flop and chop and the top area doesn't give much riding area..

I have measured the bars by placing an adjustable spanner on the clamp area of the bars and then using a tape to measure the spanner gap. It is coming up at what I would say is 25.5, but it seems 25.4mm is more common.

Does anyone know where I can get a set of flat bars or risers for the bike? Will I have any problems getting a set of cross type levers for it?

Standard MTB bars are 25.4, and thin down to 22.2 at the ends to take grips and lever clamps. There must have been 500+ different kinds manufactured over the past two decades, I'm sure you can find something you like.

So I need to pick up some MTB bars then... they look quite wide compared to road bars.. 580mm - do people leave them that big or chop them down?

Can you recommend any flat bar brake levers that will operate weinnman sidepull brakes? Is that with a 22.2mm clamp?

Shimano BL-R550 or Tektro FL540 are designed for road brakes and 22.2mm handlebars.

The amount you can cut off MTB bars varies, cheap ones tend to have narrower centre bulges and no fancy butting to restrict you. Try the levers and grips in different positions until you're happy and then cut off the excess.

Might be worth angling the brake levers a little lower, like this;

Reach looks quite long, they might already be in line with her forearms when she's riding.
