First Single Speed

  • Hi All

    Here is my first single speed build, rescued from the scrap man.

    Frame has Fred Williams decals on, this is a local bike shop in Wolverhampton which has been there for 50+ years. I spoke to them and they reckon it's not one of their frames as they never built one like this. Looks like it been resprayed and had new decals at some point during it's life. The dropouts are Gipiemme and interestingly the BB shell appears to be French threaded.

    Before;

    After;

  • Needs rear brake if singlespeed.
    Front quick release should be on the other side.

    Other than that it looks pretty damn tasty. Well done!

  • Hey well done! Agree with comments above, unless it's mega hilly use a 42/16 or 48/16 setup (or use 15 or 17 small cog if you want to ensure there's even wear on cogs) but looks very good.

  • Heartwarming to see a bike inches from certain death, to looking great in new hands! Chapeau

  • disagree with "needing" a rear brake
    depending on where you ride, front should be fine
    nice for a first build!

  • The law would disagree with you there Stevie.
    As would common sense.
