Vans question.
I've been buying Vans Authentic for a long time and I've noticed quite a dramatic inconsistency in the shape of the shoes. There's two main examples of this and varying degrees between the two. One has a longer toe-box and thinner, curved shape and frankly looks a bit 'special needs plimsoll'. The other is much better proportioned. Here's an example of a 'well proportioned' version - special edition models seem to be more consistently this shape:
My questions are, what is the factor that dictates the shape? Different factories? Which factory make which shoe? And how can you be sure you're getting the shoes you want when you order?

yes vans have gone to the dogs, inconsistent shapes, shoody materials and worst of all soles that wear out in 2 months - pretty sure they changed the rubber compound or something. what can you do though, wear ethies? come off it..

I've been buying loads of original Made in USA Vans lately for exactly the same reason. They have changed shape over the last few months and look like the beak of a duck billed platypus!
The quality is also shit, they split down the side of the toe box after about 3 wears. I know they always split after a while anyway but usually after at least 6 months....all that plus the prices keep going up.
I'd rather spend a bit more time searching for some OGs and paying a bit more knowing that a pair of Made in USA that are 20+ yrs old are still gonna be a better shape and better quality than the shite they're churning out now -

A potentially acceptable size huarache?
What a bunch of shite they've been knocking out recently - especially after their 'huarache exclusives' turned up on just about every other site.

Definitely getting better. The last batch were horrible. There's something really counterintuitive about Huaraches in 'premium' materials. They're such a brilliant melding of form and function it seems wrong to tip the balance in any one direction.
I wish they'd bring back Mowabbs though. Original colourways.
