  • Hi! I'm new here, been scouring this thread for info while slowly growing a little obsession with Gazelles..

Can someone help identify this Gazelle frame for me? It's a long way away by train from me but I can pick it up Sunday if it seems worth it..

Sorry for the poor quality pics, it's all the seller had. Apparently her father's, been in the attic for a few years.

    Thanks, any help appreciated!

It's hard to identify without shots of the headtube and seat tube lugs. I also find it strange that the decals should look yellowed

  • could have been... or bad/old/wrongly applied decals

I did that once together with Erikfox (he did most of the hard work) it's a tricky job

  • I'm trying to work out if that rear derailleur is badged 'Dura Ace'? If it's an early DA groupset it's probably worth buying.

  • ^ yes that's a DA rear derailleur. Chainset isn't though, and neither are the brake levers

    need moar pics!

  • Doesn't look like a Gazelle to me.

  • i found a decent image of a bike i owned once just for a short time
is there anyway to preserve this image ?

  • Decent?
    A non-drive-side-fail-picture you mean?

Wasn't it pre-owned by Erik Fox?
Pretty sure he still has a massload of pics of this.

  • i followed links to his flickr or photostream but they weren't available there
when i look back at some older photo's i've pasted into posts i just see an image not available error message.

  • Just send Erik an e-mail, a PM or contact him via his blog:

Most of his photos are in Dropbox

  • thanks

  • crossposting fomr the matiching bicylces thread and a soon fs thread.. my biutiful babies you (wheres that qupte from again?)

    readers wives contrast matching bikes:
    1977 gazelle cm track
    1978 gazelle cm 753

i like to think of them as two egged twins, both choosing totally different lives.
they actually have nothing in common but the name, roto bracket and cabling colour. rest is contrary, campag vs ofmega, 753 vs 531, white decals vs black decals, matte chrome finishing vs high chrome, etc. etc.

in the colour circle the two colours are also actually contrary:

im so sad to be selling the 753..:(

  • Finally built up.
Mostly 7400 dura ace (hubs, derailleurs, drive set)
Brakes are 600 ultegra until I find a reasonably priced 7400 set.
Headset is a new Campag Record one with the horrible writing on top.
Seat post is either Athena or Chorus Campag aero jobber.
    Rims are Mavic GL330.
Tyres are Vittoria Strada - a Japan-only training tubular with a kevlar belt and removable core.
Saddle and bar tape don't really work together, but they're not horrific.

Thanks to everyone who gave advice on how to navigate Marktplaats.

I'm now going to ride the shit out of it.

  • I may help you out with the brakes, Neil, if you promise to swap the saddle (and maybe the seat post), too! ;-)

Did you ever look out for a Bassano Vuelta saddle?
One of the best saddles my bum ever met and (match the frame tubing), Reynolds 531 rails.
There must also be a couple of hundreds, if not thousands, with Gazelle name or logo on the back. Just a tip.

    Thank you!
I am already planning to swap out the saddle for something more suitable - I was actually looking for a white Concor - the Bassano Vuleta is a great tip, though! I'll certainly look out for one. The seatpost is a little too short anyway, so it will have to go when I can find something suitable.

Frustratingly, I broke a spoke yesterday, so my dura-ace wheels will be taking a break until that gets repaired. Back to my 105 clinchers for the time being...

Still, what a great machine it is! Very responsive while also being super comfortable to ride. Love it!

  • the lugs and rear seat stays look odd, it does say older track frame so maybe different lugs back then but ....

  • noooo

  • i got mine last week

  • ouch, that's nasty. bad packaging? where did you buy?

  • That needs some welding, otherwise it will break pretty soon.

  • I sent it to one frame builder to change the dropouts. Bought it from Hilary, it was quite well packed. Bad luck i guess.

  • Are you sure? Surely (barring complete disasters that completely fuck the box entirely) you can only judge something as well packed by the fact that it looks well packed AND the item arrives undamaged.

well the flaw was that there was nothing on the dropouts, only wooden stick between rear triangle so it wouldnt bend. otherwise it was ok.

  • Nice bike but daft money, no?
