  • Dear twats in charge of roads and shit,
please "enforce" 20mph zones with cameras instead of speed humps or other "traffic calming measures". This way, drivers who break dem rule will be prosecuted and my vehicle's suspension/my back will avoid being needlessly destroyed because of moronic road "planning". This may also mean cyclists get the chance to ride safely without being swiped by motorists swerving around your plethora of different Tarmac humps, bumps and restrictions.
Whilst we are at it, a white circle painted in the middle of a perfectly good but very small junction does not a roundabout make.

  • That's part of the idea behind 20mph limits rather than zones. Limits don't require vertical deflection (which was always built into 20mph zones to be 'self-enforcing'--obviously, while it's still annoying, it also led to cars with much better suspension).

As for the annoying pseudo-mini-roundabouts, they're the consequence of more money being granted to councils under Local Safety Schemes funding where they introduced mini-roundabouts, on the grounds of their (alleged) better crash record (depends on location, and is certainly not likely where a white circle is merely painted into the centre of an ordinary priority junction). This is no longer the case, and as a result you see a lot fewer of them implemented these days.

  • Are you the head of Highways agency?

  • yes, average speed cameras are the way to go....

Any driver with a brain would far rather drive at 19.9mph down a smooth easy road than drive over something resembling a BMX track gone wrong at 10mph whilst getting both their body and motor proper battered. Forget trying to carry fragile cargo as well, such as er…everything!

  • Given that we are often told that the average speed of motorised vehicles in London is 12 mph how woudl average speed camera based enforcement catch anyone?

  • Are you the head of the Highways Agency?

    Fortunately no. :)

  • I like jumping over speedbumps, they should put bigger lips on them.

I completely agree, I strongly dislike humps and the like. I think they're a symptom of failure and the wrong policy. However, it is undeniable that they have contributed to a reduction in casualties.

Obviously, drivers would prefer not to drive over them, but once they were there, what were manufacturers to do? Urban 4x4s were a fairly logical consequence.

  • Any driver with a brain
That accounts for about 6 drivers, according to the most recent surveys.

  • That accounts for about 6 drivers, according to the most recent surveys.

But they also say 90% of cyclists are drivers.
    What say you, Sir?

  • Cyclists are idiots too.

  • If they're cyclists, how can they be drivers?

  • I have noticed a 98.2% decrease in incidences of "idiot cyclists" since last week.

  • But they also say 90% of cyclists are drivers.
    What say you, Sir?
That there are 6 2/3 cyclists.

I put it to you, Sir, that as a driver with a claimed "brain", you are therefore 2/3 of a cyclist.

  • I put it to you, Sir, that as a driver with a claimed "brain", you are therefore 2/3 of a cyclist.

blushes such flattery. 2/3rds is so very generous.

  • If they're cyclists, how can they be drivers?

In much the same way that you can be both a German and a vegetarian, presumably.

  • But not vegan.

  • But not vegan.

    No, that would be preposterous.

  • In much the same way that you can be both a German and a vegetarian, presumably.

  • I'm not German, though, I'm a European from Germany.

  • I'm not German, though, I'm a European from Germany.

You're as German as bratwurst, lederhosen and the Scorpions.

  • Lederhosen are Bavarian and Austrian, not German.

  • You are bang to rights old son, don't try and wiggle out of it!

  • A simple test would be to see if Oliver is physically capable of mowing his lawn on a Sunday.
