Storing bike for 6 months

  • Hi all

Wondering if anyone can enlighten me on what I should consider if storing my bike for 6 months (over Winter) whilst I'm overseas.

It will likely be kept in a self storage shed with all my other stuff but I'm wondering if there are any considerations I should be aware of before or after storage to prepare or re-prepare it...

The bike is just a single speed so I'm assuming not that makes things easier?

Any information would be much appreciated!

(My other option is to sell it and get something else when I return but I'm undecided as yet)

  • Turn it upside down so the tyres don't flat spot and throw a sheet over it?

Other than that my only worry would be corrosion, but if you lubricate any steel parts prior to storage I imagine that'll be fine.

  • I've done this before - just hang it up or turn it upside down and then service it when you come to ride it again. As long as your storage space is clean and dry there'll be no problems.

  • Thanks guys, sounds like good advice. Will definitely do as suggested.

    Cheers for the quick replies.

  • air tight bag around it to stop the ingress of dust
and a bag of rice to absorb any moisture perhaps ?

  • Ah yes, perhaps something like this would do the trick? http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ctc-plastic-bike-bag/
