Call me crazy but I don't think it's the mudguards that are making it look like a post bike.
I would go for black SKS with GB fixings, or GB colour-coded to match the bike, or sprayed in a non-matching complementary colour like that porny burgundy nuvinci(?) with the green mudguards.
