    Snottyotter's answer is almost as stupid and totally redundant as your question...

    A 56/14 for a 10km on the track for example, can be pretty damn fast if you can push it. On the other hand it will most likely put you to a standstill if you can't, climbing for instance. Similarly a 47/18 ratio might be fast climbing, but on the other hand you might lose some oomph on the flats. In short, you might be, but your sprocket or cog ain't fast.

    Plenty of resources on here about gear ratios. Use the search function, or even try google.
