  • He was quite blatant. Along the lines of... " yes I'm surprised by the performance. He's 42 with no track record and just ridden away from the 4 best climbers in the sport who are all at the peak of fitness.

Nibs just said he didn't expect his form to be that good and just let him go thinking he'd blow and be reeled in.

Purito just said that there's hope for him that he can also ride that well when he's 42.

Both veiled hints at the performance I reckon but just not a blatant as Valverde.. Which is rich coming from him..

I think the translation is 'what is he on and why don't I have some of that?'. Quite amusing when dopers complain about others performances, I think Basso said something along similar lines about Wiggins in 2012.

I do feel that generally teams and riders were on best behaviour during the TdF, probably from an edict from the organisers/police, 'do not dope during the 100th edition or we will lay the smacketh down on you in the worst way', but during the Giro and Vuelta it's back to business as normal.

In other news they're thinking of turning over Santa's positive from the Giro, because the amounts of EPO in his blood were tiny, but apparently consistent with micro-dosing. The circus rolls on, the clown is still in charge and the credibility of the sport is fucked.

  • Heard that. Fucking jokes.

  • tine trial

Come on, the hill in the TT wasn't that steep. :)

  • You Sir, can fuck off ;)

  • Just seen the highlights. EBH absolutely wang0ed on the line.

  • Not much love for the Vuelta this year. Is everyone waiting for some sort of announcement or something?

Great win by Phil Gil today. EBH opened about 10 bike lengths at one point but Gilbert kicked hard and brought him back.

  • Would've been happy to see either of those guys win. I'm very happy to see Danny Moreno rocking the cycling caps.

  • In a carbon copy of last season, Gilbert suddenly remembers how to win again during the Vuelta and just ahead of the Worlds. Maybe a shitty day at work, or the suspicious nature of this race so far, or the fact he beat out Eddy Boss, but I'm not convinced, he's been useless all season and suddenly he's good again.

Scratch that, he's been poor for two seasons after his ridiculous 2011 and comes good in time for the Worlds.

  • You're not shy of pointing the finger at anyone who isn't a sky rider, are you?

  • Gilbert has racked up many top 10 results this season, he has been close many times. No comparison to his 2011 season though of course.

  • Tomorrow's stage look a bit naff... Saturday so-so... Duly noted a couple of bumps Sunday, nothing serious. As I'm house bound anyway I just might tune in over the weekend; not banking on it, but it just might get interesting.

Also, Go Nico! ...but that goes without saying.

  • Ps - Gilbert is always good at this time of year

  • You're not shy of pointing the finger at anyone who isn't a sky rider, are you?

Whereas you point it exclusively at Sky riders. I remember the 'Lopez into a dominant dom' comment. I mean, Lopez?

That's the rub. 2011 was obscene really, then the BMC move and he suddenly stopped. He trotted out the 'now I'm heavily marked' excuse while rumours went around he got a tap on the shoulder for his blood values. Come Vuelta he starts winning again, and come the Worlds he was back to his best. This season I'd say he's been worse, a poor showing in the rainbow hoops. I wouldn't surprised if he manages to defend, I'd laugh for one.

I did warn I was grumpy, sorry for the broadside at Gilbert, really hope he doesn't deserve it.

  • Unlucky Higs Boson, still I've got much love for Phil Gil - his 2011 was maybe a bit special but it was fecking good to watch. I dream of climbing like this - go to 08:30 to see Gilbert beast the Mur (it's still the record for that climb).

  • i wouldn't say this is the only form Phil Gil has shown all year, doesn't seem particularly suspicious, although i've no strong views on whether he's a doper. he came second to stybar in an earlier stage. and in one of the classics (maybe Amstel Gold, i forget) he stormed up a climb near the end. when he kicked, he effortlessly dropped some fairly elite company. then he blew up 2/3 or 3/4 of the way up but still not many people could sprung like that at the end of a hard day's racing

  • Sagan didn't let him have anything... looking forward to next spring's klassiekers

Are you drunk? Saturday is tough as fuck and Sunday is the queen stage at 225 km's and with 4 cat 1 climbs.

  • Understated... and yes, drunk.

  • Why the fuck aren't they showing today's stage in its entirety?

    #spanishcunts

  • Basso out with hyperthermia

  • because of the weather... too bad.

mind you they could have had worse, when I was on the Envalira June 2nd it looked like this

thought we could get a coffee in the gas station at the summit but all they had was cigarettes and whisky

  • Roche looking like shit :(

  • Horner has to be on the level else that is one of the most ridiculously blatant performances of all time, only Nibali able to live with him

  • Looks like the weather made the selection today, some podium pretenders found wanting.
