Jam Exchange (Jam, Preserves, Chutney)

  • A spin-off from the Food thread. Yes food jam, not music jam or stuck-jam or fig-jam.

Post your jam which you would like to swap, sell or donate.

  • Don't all jam-pack this thread at once.

  • I'll try to jam it into my hectic schedule

  • It's quite amazing that this thread has been preserved intact for so long.

  • I'll be making some plum jam with the fruit from my tree on wednesday - Its been a few years since I offered mango chutney/MOC's brown sauce and other delights on here. I remember when Stelle was the queen of jam and marmalade..

  • ^ I heard she'd got herself into a bit of a pickle.

  • Not that I relish the thought, you understand.

  • Stelle tipped me off about loads of blackberries round the back of HHV - picked a load and made some jam at the weekend! Not quite ready to give any of it away yet...

On the other hand, I do have a shedload of plum chutney and Seville orange marmalade if anybody fancies swapsies. Unfortunately already have plenty plum jam, so probably not up for that so much.

  • aha this is a good plan. I may have some chutneys that I could part with, I will have a look.

  • Next time I go to my parents I'll grab a load of apples from their neighbour's tree (he never eats them) and make some chutney or sauce or something.

There are some blackberries in Brockwell Park too.

  • I have many small jars of chutney knocking around. Happy to trade for other preserves.

  • List? Of what you're offering as well as most convenient drop.

Dumps: 4 x plum chutney, 4 x Seville orange marmalade (Souths)

During the last round of the Summer CX Series at HH there was a group of 3-4 people picking blackberries there. I nearly had one of them as he emerged from a bush as I moved wide to overtake someone.

  • Back on topic, someone should let Skully know about this thread. He gets the credit for getting me into jam making. I had some rhubarb for him, he wanted to make rhubarb and ginger jam with it, but he wasn't responding to my attempts to contact him so we ended up making some ourselves. It's fantastic, just about to finish the last jar of this year's efforts (which are as good as last year's).

  • ^need recipe for that! I have rhubarb that will be harvested next spring.

Clefty: 3 x Plum Jam (Souths)

I've not bothered with jamming / chutneying this year - the crop last year wasn't great as I didn't give it the attention it needed. Lots of blackberries and apples still left in Brockwell Park though.

  • Bumping this old thread, spent £30 on PYO strawberries at the weekend

Need to Jam now or the kids and I are going to turn into a strawberry.

Any good recipes or do I just follow the recipe on the back of the Tate & Lyle pectin pack ?

  • Mega dredge! Packet recipes are normally fine.

My advice would be to do a small batch first if you're doing it for the first time. Gives you more control over temperature, easier to manage, so less risk you end up with a big batch of sugary strawberry water / red concrete.

I've got loads of marmalade but little jam at the moment, so let me know if you fancy a swap!
