  • .......the money minus one pound is staying in the bank!

  • Good on you lad.I rate using what you have rather than fixating on new stuff all the time and content myself with only one bike build a year.

Are you sure you know which forum you are on?

  • Are you sure you know which forum you are on?

Some obscure corner of the bike obsessed internet I think?

  • You can never have enough bikes.

  • I'd chop it up like this: there's the love of bikes, then there is the love of stuff.

I love bikes and riding, and different bikes do different things (in function and in quality) and expanding the collection hopefully expands my ability to love and enjoy it.

But I don't like having stuff I don't need although I probably buy all kinds of shit I don't need all the time because that's modern life innit. I'm not a minimalist twat or anything like that but I do try and only have few nice things and try to keep the rest of my crap in functional rotation.

So when I get tempted by the new hotness or something flash I always ask myself: "Am I chasing my love of bikes or my love of 'stuff'?"

tl;dr: I have one bike and that's enough to make me happy.

  • Yes but dan you'd have another one if your landlady wasn't so uptight!

Ok edit that to 'for the time being' haha

  • I disagree. Enough bikes = n+1, where n = the current number of bikes you own.

I think I posted that version of what I'm saying quite some time ago. :)

  • My second most enjoyable bike to ride is a been-to-hell-and-back Giant Bowery. Cost as much as the pedals on the nice bike. As long as you're smiling, you're winning.

Me too. Extraordinary pay back for the money. It has paid for itself 4 times over with commuting fares, let alone the weekend jaunts with the good people of this fair forum.

  • Isnt it amazing how something so small can make a bloke really happy !!!!!!!
I went down to the bike shop today to get a couple of spacers for my head set, well, while waiting one noticed a rummage bucket full of tools. Oh I do like a good rummage !! Anyway, I picked up numerous spanners and sprocket removers AND, yes AND two tap and dye sets for a 1" steerer tube, oh happy days. I was looking to get my forks rethreaded not that long ago. well numerous bits later I asked how much for the lot, he said ' £10 ' I all but took his hand off !
A good day, a good find.

Yes. Never seen you look happier than when you took the silver foil off the 11hour slow smoked beef and fed thin slices straight into people's mouths

  • or the pop pop pop, buuuuurrrrrr buuurrrr ping of tesco value lasagne for two :)

Finishing a long night shift and winding down with a slow cruise in the early sun with emptyish roads
