at least it would never come into contact with weather

If the torque doesn't kill it, the sweat would.

I find this interesting, what model cranks are those?
This is my bike, 7402 road cranks so shouldn't really be here :). I like 7400 panto stuff so I built a bike with it. Cycles Underground D4 chainring, recommended.

good point - half an hour on the rollers and I could wash out a BB30 no problem

HA just as I thought!
Lovely bike though.

But I'm sure Shimano do care that they lose sales to Sugino, just not much.
Sugino 75s are even worse than Shimano FC-7710, so I don't think Shimano will lose any sleep or sales
- though I've no idea what kind of axle diameter the GB and Look chainsets use.
Look uses a 50mm axle in a 65mm shell, although it's not 50mm all the way across because it has a rebate to allow it to be threaded though the shell
every time people ask what cranks DA OR SG75 tester says to buy some modern ones :P
Because USE make a track ring which allows use of any 130mm PCD Shimano road crank on the track
Because you can get the benefit of Shimano's very clever hollow forging (which routinely trumps pretty much everything else in stiffness:weight)
Because you can use 105 cranks (5600 or 5700) which are cheap and only differ from DA in all the bits you won't be using anyway
Because FC-5700 + £100 USE ring is still cheaper than inferior old-fashioned track cranks.
A proper BB30 track crank would be nice, and if the shell is made properly pressed in bearings are no more likely to wander about than screwed in cups, but Q can't really go below about 130mm until somebody brings the chainline in; that's feasible if you don't have to accommodate flanges for wire spokes in your rear hub, but as long as the chainstay remains where it usually is, you only have about 7mm of wiggle room, bringing Q down to about 115mm. Andy Walser was onto this a decade or more ago, but few people noticed. If you elevate the chainstay (Corima Fox, Obree 'Old Faithful'), you could go down to a Q of about 85mm, and then you're into the territory where Xav was experimenting, but the UCI don't like bikes becoming better so it's never going to happen.

Or you could use Tester's own™ Ultratorque pista.

That was a good plan when you could get discontinued Mirage and Veloce UT cranks for peanuts, and as long as you are happy with the 46mm chainline. Now that Campag don't make metal cranks with UT axles any more, not so much.
PowerTorque is no better than HT2 or GXP, so you might as well keep life simple by avoiding the hidden fifth bolt and less common 135mm PCD

so what cranks would you recommend for track without buying one piece Look ones?
-
• #79211
105 with use ring?
-
• #79212
As I said, FC-5700 (or 5600, if there are any left) with the USE ring. The Look ones only work on Look frames with the 65mm diameter shell, and come as part of the package, so they are not an aftermarket option.
If you have money to burn, I expect you could adapt Campag Bora in a similar way to my Zipp Vumachrono

That must explain why Shimano ditched the original short spline Octalink on everything else :-)

De Rosa Pista
It's nice that you took some more pictures, but I'm pretty sure this still belongs on Current Projects

That De Rosa needs to be embedded.!

I have no clue what you are talking about. It is not a 'current project' it is a bike I have had fro several years and not a 'project' in any way.
I know the Sheriff Badge hubs have had failures but I have ridden these pretty hard on a velodrome (I weigh 82kgs) and had no problems, just to try them out mind, I wouldn't race on 'em, they're more for show!!

If it's your bicycle, then it's automatically an anti-porn and thereforth should be removed henceforth from this topic.

OK, I'll spell it out. There is only one rule in the porn thread, and that is:
- Don't post your own bikes in the porn thread
- Don't post your own bikes in the porn thread

call me stupid, but i gotta ask this - is it really a DeRosa?
Actually BB30 would probably be a hideous solution for track, as the bearings would wobble around in the frame, toasting the bearing...and the frame.
