Your square taper BB is either ISO or JIS and has a specified axle length. Every crankset should have a standard BB axle length for whatever chainline the manufacturer expected.
If you're changing cranks, I suggest this is a good time to switch to an External-BB system. HT2-compatible is better than GXP. £10-£20 for a used Shimano External (HT2) BB.
Is your rear axle 120mm or 135mm?
