For Sale: Casati Lo-pro - 54cm - Columbus EL tubing - Record, Chorus, Nitto, Zipp 400, Corima

Hello :)

Here is an experiment I worked on last year. The frame is a very special and very light Casati Lo-pro, made from Columbus EL tubing Varnished by Dossena Carlo in Mica Pearl. The paint job is outstanding in natural daylight - a real head turner. Casati themselves are a small family run business in Italy and take pride in the bikes they build. The size is 54cm and fits me like a glove (6ft) short torso, long legs.

The bike is rapid and so much fun on descents!

Components include -

• Campy Record levers (they are basically new)
  
• Campy Chorus Rear Mech (Again basically new)
  
• Carbon Cormia 4 spoke wheel (rear)
  
• 650c Zipp 400 front wheel
  
• Nitto Noodle Bar - new
  
• Nitto stem - new
  
• Nitto seatpost - new

To be honest I don't know how I want to sell this yet. But for the full bike I would like £1,200, it cost me more to put it together.

Beautiful paint.

It truly is. I've never seen anything like it. The frame is NOS, so no pitting on the chrome, but it has suffered a bit on the cable guides and seatpost tube.

I'll be interested in taking the chainset and rear mech if you decided to split fella.

Had an Olagnero with the same pearl varnish: gives it a beautiful lustre.

What's the TT measure and assume it's 54 CTC?

Lovely! Just acquired an early 80's Casati myself and it is of superb quality and a cut above. Good luck with the sale.

Haha! It is wrong, but it works. That's why I tried it. The top tube doesn't slope that much so it feels actually very comfortable. But yeah it was an experiment and a bit of fun really :) Would be really easy to make it a straight out TT bike. I'm not sure how much it weighs, but it is very light to be honest. Surprisingly light. Tobbe good job on getting a Casati, you can really tell that they spent a lot of time considering the build quality and design of their bikes especially around the 80's early 90's period. Thanks all for the positive vibes!

So the frame is 55cm on the top tube and 54cm from bb to the top of the seat tube. Rear spacing is 130mm, so it took a 10 spd cassette with no trouble, hence the beauty of being able to combine contemporary components with an old skool frame.

For those who might want to know this dapper looking man was the founder of Casati back in 1920. Pietro Casati was a good amateur racer who decided to build bikes in Monza after the first world war.

Pietro began supplying bikes to some of the local clubs in the area, the most prestigious being the 'Pedale Monzese'. Later, Pietro taught his son and Gianni the art of frame building. Gianni followed in his father's footsteps by bringing his sons Massimo and Luca into the business, as well as sponsoring up-and-coming amateurs; among them was a kid by the name of Gianni Bugno, who would later become a two-time world champion and rode on Casati frames for eight years. Monza is also the home of Cicli Casati, a renowned Italian frame builder.

I still have mine , Carlo Dossena was quite a prestigious finisher and pearl lacquer fades were his forte...
