Maybe a bit left field (though you did say classic looking...lol)
I've got a NOS Stronglight 80 chainset that can fit rings anywhere from 52 to 28 (so IMO better than modern compacts), as it has an 86mm BCD, rings still widely available but I have a 50 & 36 to go or indeed a 48 and a 32.
With the latter you can run an 11-25 and still have a decent 115" top but have a 34" low, with smaller ratio jumps in the 3 big sprockets (compared to say a 11-27/28 that are popular)It's circa 550g without crank bolts though I have some NOS cranks bolts & the matching Stronglight Crank caps to go with it.
By comparison a Campag Centaur Carbon is quoted as 740g with the Hollowtype axle BB and a Shimano 7900 crankset is 675g similarly. You'd need a BB approx 116-118mm in length.
I run an earlier 70s variant on my 50s 531 Carlton (with a 118mm titanium axled BB) and can turn it into a triple easily with longer chainring bolts.
hit me up with an email for piccies if of interest -

Thanks, but I think that's probably a bit too left field... Keen to have something a bit more modern with external bearing BB.

Not sure if that was the right link...
(much as I'd also quite like an ultra-wide tokina lens) -

Would you consider Campagnolo? I have a new silver Athena 11spd crankset with Record BB cups I don't need. 50-34t, 172.5mm.
Looking for a nice compact chainset to finish my much delayed new road bike. Would quite like something carbon but fairly classic looking (e.g. not keen on recent Shimano stuff). Sram Force would be good, but open to anything that won't look too weird with a modern steel frame and mostly older sram red parts.
