^ Yeh, why have a burger for £20 if you could have a lobster!?
I just had a life-changing experience during my first visit to Il Bacio in Stoke Newington. We shared a sausage and gorgonzola pizza and a jalapeno and pepperoni pizza. Both were amazing, the former was like an out of body experience. Can't believe I've lived so close for so long and never been.

Just knocked up an Asian BBQ marinade for a shoulder of pork... Studded it with tons of garlic and ginger, bagged it up then poured the marinade all over it...
Going in the oven all day tomorrow...
Cannot. Wait.

Been cooking a shoulder of pork since 10 this morning have made a recipie my friend call man slaw, shredded cabbage, onion, carrot and apple with vinegar, a bit of mayo pizza mozzarella and cheddar as well as chorizo. Tempted to round it off with mac and cheese.
Will be washed down with cider which I rediscovered last night.

Sounds delicious, Ed...
I think we're gonna knock up an Asian slaw and devour it in many, many wraps...

I cooked the first of our own hoggets(1/2 way between lamb and mutton) today. (It had had its eyes pecked out by a crow).
Made an apple stuffing for the breast, and then braised the shanks in red wine/paprika.
Served with Persian rice, and cumin and coriander carrot's and snips from the garden.
Pudding was apple crumble or a mint choc chip meringue.Nearly everything was grown or raised by us. It was a good day.

Hmmm, delicious. what do you recommend if I can't find one with it's eyes pecked out?

Find a volunteer?
-

I was explaining why we'd killed the hogget as it is a relatively unusual time to slaughter the animal.

So it was alive when its eyes were pecked out?
-
• #15091
It was alive and calmly dreaming of being stuffed with apples whilst dipping its' pins in red wine and paprika...

I made the rice/lentils mejadra from Ottolenghi's Jerusalem last night and it was amazing. Sorry no pictures because I was so greedy I ate it before I could be bothered. But if you want rice/lentils, make this. The method is here:

Yep.

I'll ask my mum for a run through- she makes it perfectly every time, and every time I try I burn the shite out of it....

Cheers. I have an old persian cookbook which has a recipe in it I'll dig out, tried it once and was lovely but the bottom didn't crisp up like I'd hoped. Will be interesting to compare.

And I was just being facetious. I'm only jealous of your rural (and a tad grisly, if you don't mind me saying) idyll. Does the pecking thing happen often? I've never heard of it before.
Meanwhile back in suburban mundania, I knocked up some very pleasant spicy chicken burgers last night. Can't remember where i nicked the idea from but:
Just blitzed for a few secs: chicken (breast but I reckon some thigh in there would improve them exponentially), white breadcrumbs, garlic, light soy, lime juice and zest, a couple of finely chopped red birdseye chillis. I think that was it actually. Opted out of the obvious ginger and lemongrass options in the mix as I thought they'd be too overpowering. Just form into palm sized balls, flatten a bit and fry them off in batches till nicely browned/sticky/crunchy on both sides.
I keep them warm in the oven then just wrap them in individual iceberg lettuce leaves with either a bit of lemon juice and mayonaise or some dipping sauce made from sesame oil/soy/lime juice/rice vinegar/garlic/lemongrass and chilli and eat at with yr hands. Fast becoming a regular feature in our house.

Looks
like a pizza from outer spaceawesome !!
Just been to Burger and Lobster. Lobster natch. Can't go wrong really. 2lb grilled lobster with garlic butter, fries, bottle of half decent white and an utterly pointless side salad. Plastic bib possibly a bit OTT. Great lobster though. Very 'appy.
