@SamJT .. Ernesto Colnago decided to crimp the top and down tubes in about 1981. It was apparently reported that early (presumably team bikes, as Colnago like Campagnolo worked very closely with racers back in the day for development) frames were stiffer, but there were complaints of instability at high speeds. In 1986, Colnago introduced the Master with Gilco tubing and crimped tubes were no longer ..
