  • Ha that comment just brightened up my morning.

Yeah, spoke to the security room which covers the whole complex and they said it was the second one to go from the area that day.

Would love to bump into the b***ard.

  • Damn, sorry to hear that tjp, I'm going to be in that area tomorrow and usually park up around there, but will definitely avoid those stands now.

  • guys if you can please report what locks were used for the sake of others' safety

  • Yeah, spoke to the security room which covers the whole complex and they said it was the second one to go from the area that day.

They're definitely earning their keep right there

  • Cheers Doctor Cake.

1000archangels - it was a cable lock, not one of the big names, but solid enough to last me 4 years in Glasgow and 3 years down here.

bothwell - yep, to be commended!

  • Just to create a bit of a reoccurring theme, mine was a cable lock. Once again, until it actually happens you don't realise how useless they are. Mine was a pretty big one, but still must have been pretty easy to cut. Mine was an Abus one that I've had for about 4 years back up North.

  • yeah, this is essentially just oversized cable lock.
    stay away

  • Agreed about that Abus. For about the same weight and more flexibility, a good lock and chain would be much better.

I had one for years in Nottingham and I'm sure the only reason it 'worked' was 1) luck and 2) because it was bigger than the puny cable locks of my flatmates (both of whom had their bikes nicked from the walled back garden while mine was untouched). I daren't use it in London, even on my commuter.

  • Just seen two policemen looking pleased with themselves wheeling 3 bikes down railton road towards brixton police station I presume. Bikes were two bmxs and one carerra.

  • So, it happened. My bike was stolen from outside LA Fitness in Victoria last night. Locked it up about 1830 in the bike area beside the Boris Bike stand, returned about 2000 and it was gone. Images and specs below:

[]Planet X RT-57 carbon frame and fork

    ]SRAM Force shifters
[]SRAM Force front & rear derailleur
    [
    ]FSA 53/39 chainset
    []FSA wheelset
    [
]Garmin cadence sensor on rear chainstay
    []Garmin twist mount on stem
    [
    ]Speedplay pedals

If anyone comes across it, please drop me a line.

    Cheers.

Ouch, I have an almost identical bike (compact not double) and this just reaffirms my resolution not to lock it up anywhere!

That's really shit. I work in the building near to LA Fitness but am able to lock up in our secure basement.

I wonder if the thefts have something to do with all the builiding work going on.

In the 'olden days' you'd have loads of people walking by that rack which I suspect made them far safer. Now people tend not to as there is no crossing at the end of that row and pedestrains are directed elesewhere.

  • Does no-one read this thread until their bike is nicked?

DO NOT USE A CABLE LOCK / ARMOURED CABLE LOCK.

    they are useless.

To be clear, these type or anything that looks like it are useless:

  • Does no-one read this thread until their bike is nicked?

I think a lot of people make their first (or fourth) post in here...

  • Get your point about taking "the necessary precautions" and "securely" locking your bike etc. etc. etc. On the other hand, from reading this thread, I get the distinct impression that cementing your bike to the ground in armoured concrete 30ft below the seafloor wouldn't protect it from getting nicked.

  • ^ Really? Pretty sure every bike in this thread has been locked with a cheap/shit lock, or locked to something shit, or freelocked, or not locked at all (communal hallway, burglary etc). If anything this thread is perpetual confirmation that poor locks/technique will get your bike nicked in London.

Does no-one read this thread until their bike is nicked?

Most new cyclists in London won't come on lfgss and read the 'stolen bikes' thread before they buy a bike and a lock.

  • I dunno, think that's a bit of a bold claim. Although in my case it certainly is true! There's certainly no point in spending any money on a shit lock. Go big or go home as they say...

  • 2013 model. Stolen, along with the wall mounted rack it was locked to, from a "secure" car park at work (bermondsey).
No pics of the actual bike but it was essentially this with a silver bodged seatpin bolt, I broke the stock black one, and Shimano PD-M520 pedals.

Sometime between last Tuesday morning and last Friday morning..

  • Sad times Pete.

  • Hi Paul, gutted mate.
Work don't seem to give a shite either. I've been banging on about making sure the gate's shut for months now. Take a bit of a holiday and that's what I see when I get back today. They hadn't even noticed......Grrrr

How's it going over there. Doing much riding?

  • I've always found with these situations they'll never do anything about it until something happens to the owners' car or suchlike.

I'm doing some riding. Not as much as I'd like to because it's ridiculously hot. I had no idea what exposure to very hot and humid conditions could do the body.

  • Oh, Pete, fuck!!

  • It has changed slightly since this photo was taken, and now has ambrosio excellence rims, phil Wood touring hubs and a gold miche supertype seat pin (vom).

It was stolen from a very good friend of mines mums flat in Kings Cross yesterday. He is already very ugly and unpopular, so as you can imagine this is the last thing he needs.

Cash will be paid on safe return of bike (you don't have to return it, just tell me where it is, I'll do the rest).
Alternatively, I will give you 10% off any frame set you buy from me.

Thanks in advance LFGSS, if anyone can do it, it's you!

Was one of them carrying a pair of bolt cutters? :)

  • the old dress up like a copper to go nicking bikes scam eh?

  • Manchester theft but if organised crime these bikes may appear elsewhere in the country - be hard to shift 'em around here:
